What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“GRIMBLE's horde mode is already a complete, replayable game: multiple levels, bosses, three weapons and online co-op. What I want to build next is a full campaign mode, and as a solo developer, Early Access is how I can make it properly. Releasing now lets players enjoy the game today, helps support the campaign, and means the people actually playing can shape it while it's being built. (for inspiration and such)”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Around 6-12 months. The goal is to leave Early Access once the campaign mode is complete and polished, and I'd rather take a little longer than rush it.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will add a campaign mode. an adventure with its own levels, bosses and progression, alongside the existing horde mode. Before then, Early Access updates will also bring new levels, bosses, enemies, upgrades and cosmetics to horde mode, plus balance and polish based on player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Horde mode is fully playable, solo or in online co-op for up to 4 players:
- Multiple levels, each with a boss every 10 rounds
- Three weapons (sword, bow and magic), each with a three-stage evolution and its own upgrades
- Shrines, shops, a hub town and a cosmetic collection
- Blitz mode, a fast high-score run
- Full controller support

The campaign mode is not in yet. Expect some rough edges, especially in online play, and regular updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes: the price will go up when the campaign mode releases, so early supporters get the full game for less. I figure that the campaign mode is basically a whole new game itself, so the pricing changes according to that. (don't worry, it'll still be pretty fair.)”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through the Steam forums, the community Discord and devlogs on YouTube. I'll read bug reports, balance feedback and ideas, and share what's being worked on as the campaign comes together. Players' feedback during Early Access will directly shape the campaign mode, as well as what comes to horde mode next.”

About This Game

GRIMBLE is a PS1-style co-op horde brawler. Pick a weapon, fight off wave after wave of goblins, skeletons and (more to come), and take down a boss every ten rounds, solo or with up to 3 other friends online.

Every run, your weapon grows. Stack upgrades, evolve your sword, bow or magic into something ridiculous, and find out how far you can push it before the horde pushes back.

GRIMBLE isn't about mowing down thousands of mindless mobs. Enemies are tough, readable and dangerous, closer to a Zelda fight than a hack-and-slash or whatever.

Three weapons (for now):

Sword: combos, air attacks and plunges, with a revolver on the side to have some range.

Bow: precision and crits... until it evolves into a gun, then a hand cannon.

Magic: elemental bolts and chain lightning that charge all the way up to an Explosion (which looks really awesome).

Every upgrade belongs to one weapon, so each one is completely different.

FEATURES:

Online co-op for up to 4 players.

-A boss every 10 rounds.
-Over 50 upgrades, plus shrines, shops and gem shards to spend between fights.
-3 seperate 50 round levels, with more to come.
-A hub town to start your runs
-Blitz mode: a fast, chaotic, high-score run where things get out of hand quickly.
-Cosmetics: hats, trails, weapon auras, kill effects and more, from the Gob-o-Matic prize wheel.
-Full controller support, including DualSense adaptive triggers and rumble.

EARLY ACCESS:
GRIMBLE is being made by one person and is still growing. More levels, bosses and weapons are on the way.
