What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The core game is complete and playable, from your first night to the fall of your town, but there’s a lot more I want to add. Early Access lets me get it into players’ hands now and shape what comes next based on real feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 6 to 12 months, depending on how development and feedback go.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add:
-New game modes, such as Conquest (capture the enemy portals and take the whole map) and rotating challenges
-More buildings, enemies and tower upgrades
-Online leaderboards
-Steam achievements and cloud saves
-Ongoing balance and performance improvements based on player feedback”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable. You can build and grow a town, assign villagers to jobs, reshape the land, build walls and towers, hire heroes, call down god powers, and defend against eight kinds of enemy across as many nights as you can survive. When your town falls, gold carries over to permanent upgrades for your next run. Expect rough edges, balance changes and the occasional bug. During Early Access, an update may occasionally break a saved run in progress, and a major update could mean resetting Gold Store progress; I’ll always announce it ahead of time. Leaderboards will start fresh when they’re added.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. I plan to raise the price as new content and features are added, so Early Access is the cheapest time to get the game, and everyone who buys during Early Access gets every update at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I read the Steam discussions and use player feedback to decide what to add and fix next. I also post development updates on X and YouTube, and occasionally stream development on Twitch.”

About This Game

Build by day. Survive the night.

Every night, the horde comes for your Town Hall. Every morning you survive, you get one more day to make your town harder to break. Impenetrable is a voxel city builder and tower defense roguelite where each run ends the same way, and the only question is how long you can hold out.

A town that works for itself

  • Your villagers chop, mine, farm, fish, hunt and gather on their own. You decide who does what, and they walk out into the world to find it.

  • Dig trenches, fill gaps, raise bridges and reshape the land block by block.

  • Build houses, farms, lumber yards, mines, storehouses, wells, a market and more as your town grows.

  • Treasure turns up in mines and chests: helmets, armor, amulets and weapons to equip on your villagers.

  • Pause at any time to plan: lay out walls, assign jobs and post defenders while the world holds still.

Hold the line

  • Fortify your town with fences, wood or stone walls, set spike traps, and place torches to light the dark.

  • Towers level up as they fight. Each level offers a choice of upgrades: Burning, Poison, Slow, Chaining, Splash, Knockback and more.

  • Put villagers on the night shift to defend the town. Arm them with swords, axes, war hammers, daggers, bows or bombs, and they’ll meet the horde head-on.

  • Hire powerful heroes at the Tavern to turn the tide, like the Cleaver, the Stormcaller and the Bombardier.

  • Raise a Cathedral, fill it with offerings, and call down god powers like Meteor Shower and Smite when the night turns against you.

  • Multiple enemy types, each a different problem: Breakers chew through fences, Hoppers leap fences and low walls, Swimmers cross water, Splitters split in two, and more...

Every run counts

When your town finally falls, the gold you earned can be spent at the Gold Store for permanent upgrades to towers, villagers, defenses, luck and faith. Every map is new, and every run starts a little stronger.

The Chronicle takes a picture of your town every day, so when it’s all over you can watch it rise and fall.
