What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Veilborn is a party game, and it only gets good with players in it. The expeditions, the rival parties, the loot and the economy between runs all need real parties testing them. Early Access lets us tune the balance, the pacing and the rewards around how people actually play, and fix what breaks, while the game keeps growing zone by zone.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Veilborn to stay in Early Access for about 12 to 18 months, depending on what players tell us and how long it takes to get each new zone right.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to raise the level cap and add more zones beyond the Grass Lands and the Forgotten Crypt, each with its own monsters, bosses, named wanderers, events and gear. We also plan to add more abilities, talents and item sets for every class, more trades and recipes, more contracts and stories from the Veilhold's patrons, and more achievements and titles. Alongside that we intend to keep balancing classes, loot and PvP, improve performance, and polish the art, sound and interface. Localization into other languages is something we would like to add later on.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Veilborn is fully playable from level 1 to 20. It has two zones split into four level bands: the Rat Warrens and the Mossgrin Hollows in the Grass Lands, and the Ossuary Halls and Drowned Sanctum in the Forgotten Crypt, each with its own monsters, lair bosses and an arena boss. There are five classes, each with ten abilities, four talent trees and twelve masteries to train. Expeditions run for thirty minutes, and up to three parties share each one; AI companions fill out a party that is short of players. Between runs you get loot with prefixes, suffixes, tiers and class sets, the Veilwright's currency crafting, ten gathering and crafting trades, the Contract Board, player trading, the Exchange, and a Journal with a bestiary, codex, achievements and titles.

It is still early. Expect bugs, balance changes, rough edges in the art and interface, and changes to how things work as we learn from players. The game is English only and requires an internet connection.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Veilborn is free to play during Early Access, and we plan to keep it free to play when it leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read the Steam discussions and reviews, and we will post patch notes with every update so players can see what changed and why. We also plan to run polls and playtests on new zones and classes before they go live. Reports of bugs, balance problems and anything that feels bad to play shape what we work on next.”

About This Game
Enter. Fight. Escape.
Veilborn is a free-to-play co-op extraction RPG. Your party of five steps through the Veilgate into a map laid out fresh every run, fights through camps, lairs and a boss's arena, and races for a portal before the thirty-minute clock runs out.

Everything you carry out is yours. Fall for good, and your bag stays where you dropped, for anyone to take.

Thirty minutes, three ways out

 • Gather your party. Play with up to four friends, or let AI companions fill every empty slot. They tank, heal, dodge and pull you back up when you're down.

 • Fight and loot. Clear camps, crack chests, take down lair masters and wake the boss.

 • Watch your back. Up to three parties share every map, all after the same loot.

 • Get out. Escape portals open as the clock runs down. Kill the boss to open its portal, or go deeper: up to three floors below, each one richer than the last. Whatever happens, your secure pouch comes home.

Rivals that remember you

Rival bands have names, captains and long memories. A band that brings you down carries your gear home, and its captain wears your best piece into the next run. Fell the captain and everything they took comes back to you.

If a named wanderer lands the killing blow, it becomes your nemesis. It keeps your best piece, grows stronger and stalks your next three runs, until you take it back.

Loot worth the risk

 • 54 Legendaries, each with a power of its own. A staff whose Fireballs leave a blizzard behind, a standard that plants a war banner where you Charge. Break one down to learn its Echo and imprint that power on another piece.

 • 20 class sets, dropped only by the bosses that guard them.

 • Gear that rolls its own stats. Prefixes, suffixes and tiers on every piece, so no two drops are alike.

 • The Veilwright's table. Rework your gear with rare currencies: reroll it, raise it, seal a stat, inscribe one of your choosing, or gamble it all on Riftglass.

Build your hero

Five classes, Knight, Ranger, Mage, Rogue and Druid, each with ten abilities, four talent trees of its own and 344 talents between them. Train twelve weapon and armour masteries by fighting with them, and pick a perk at every tier.

A world that fights back

 • Monsters hunt in packs, call for help and telegraph every big hit. Read the ground, or wear it.

 • 36 named wanderers, each with one trick to beat: a choir of three that shares one life, a beast that drags you into its ring, a puppeteer that turns you against your own party.

 • Day turns to night mid-run. In the dark, monsters see less of you, so hood your lantern and slip past.

 • Veil Writs let you pick your danger. Open a run with a rival band already hunting you, a wanderer on the loose or bigger packs, and earn more for it.

Three zones, levels 1 to 20

Start in the Grass Lands' Rat Warrens and Mossgrin Hollows. Then descend into the Forgotten Crypt's Ossuary Halls and Drowned Sanctum, where your lantern is all that holds back the dark, or head out into the Thornwild's boars, wasps and trolls. Every level band has its own monsters, lair masters and arena boss.

Between runs

 • The Veilhold. Take contracts from three patrons, trade with other heroes, and buy and sell on the Exchange.

 • Ten trades. Mine, chop, fish, forage and dig out in the world, then smith, tan, brew, cook and tailor at the bench.

 • The Undercroft. Rebuild your own hideout under the Veilhold, chamber by chamber, with what you carry out of the Veil.

 • The Journal. A bestiary of 125 foes, a codex, 221 achievements and 73 titles to wear.

Guilds, war and the Crucible

 • Found a guild, build its hall and hunt a weekly guild boss together.

 • Raid nights for 10 to 20 heroes in the Sunken Choir.

 • Guild war: leagues, Saturday sieges, feuds, and caravans to guard or to raid.

 • The Crucible: duels, 2v2, 3v3 and guild 5v5 arena play, with ranked seasons.

 • The Blackmarch: for real risk, where everything you wear and carry can be lost.

Free to play

Veilborn is free to play. The store sells cosmetics and conveniences, never gear or combat stats.

Early Access
