Collect all 60 hand-drawn species in Germline. Raise each from founder to adult, reproduce to hunt rare morphs, crossbreed your favourites, and decide who farms and who fights. Every first adult unlocks two more species.

Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Germline combines incremental progression, organism building and expanding layers of simulation. We want to learn how players approach these systems, which builds they enjoy, and where progression becomes confusing or repetitive. Early Access gives players an opportunity to help shape the game’s balance, usability and depth while development continues.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently estimate that Germline will remain in Early Access for approximately 18–24 months.

This is an estimated timeframe rather than a fixed release date. Development progress, player feedback, testing, and the scope of future updates may influence when the game is ready for full release.

Our priority is to deliver a polished, stable, and enjoyable experience rather than rush towards a specific deadline.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the variety of mutations, challenges, world traits and narrative discoveries, creating more ways to build organisms and approach each reality. We also aim to refine long-term progression, improve onboarding and accessibility, and further develop cooperative and competitive play. These plans may change as we learn from testing and community feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build includes the main single-player progression loop: pulse a heart to generate energy, build and connect organs, discover mutations, unlock automation, capture network nodes and create universes. Players can reset realities, carry permanent upgrades into new runs, and progress toward ecosystems and multiverses.

It also includes species, morphs, crossbreeding and farm/fight, challenge realities, offline progress, multiple save slots, achievements and cosmetic customization. Multiplayer and online services remain in development. Balance, interface clarity and later progression are still being refined.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep Germline at a lower price during Early Access to reflect its ongoing development and reward early supporters.

We are leaning towards maintaining a consistent price throughout Early Access, with a potential increase when the game reaches its full release to reflect the additional content, features, and improvements.

Any planned pricing changes will be communicated to the community in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to gather feedback through Steam discussions and share changes through development announcements. Bug reports, suggestions and accounts of player experiences will help us prioritize improvements to progression, build variety and interface clarity.

We encourage players to share their strategies, unusual organisms, and the moments where the game feels rewarding, confusing or frustrating.”

About This Game

Raise one of 60 hand-drawn species from a single founder cell to a full-grown adult: tigers, bees, corals, octopuses, sunflowers, peacocks and many more. Each grows through four stages, Founder, Developed, Juvenile and Adult, with new artwork at every stage, so you watch your creature change, not just a number go up. Your first adult of each species unlocks two more.

Every organism is born with a seed. Most are standard forms, but a few percent of births are rare colour morphs such as albino, golden and ghost. Reproduce to roll a new seed, crossbreed two species for better odds, and record every species and morph you find in the Bestiary.

Every species has a role. Farmers such as bees, sunflowers and snails keep your economy running. Fighters such as tigers, sharks and scorpions are built for battle. Decide who stays home to farm and who goes out to fight.

Inside every creature is a working body. Pulse its heart for energy, then place and connect organs to shape your production: brains unlock automation and spore-producing organs supply clones for expansion.

Research mutations, combine their effects and discover synergies. Your next breakthrough might come from a better connection, a new adaptation or a different approach to your build.

Pulse the heart yourself, then develop systems that buy, research and expand for you. Play actively, leave your organism growing or combine both. Offline progress lets you come back to a habitat that kept growing while you were away.

Send clones across branching networks, capture nodes and extend your reach. Create universes, raise civilisations and choose the laws that shape their worlds.

As your world expands, its inhabitants begin to question their existence. Discover their stories and decide what kind of creator you will become.

Reset your reality and carry knowledge and permanent upgrades into a new beginning — keep your species or switch to another you have unlocked. Take on challenges with altered rules, develop ecosystems and explore multiverses. Each reset gives you new tools and new decisions for the next run.

  • 60 hand-drawn species: each grows through four stages, from founder cell to adult.

  • Fighters and farmers: every species has its own stats for fighting and farming.

  • Multiple organisms: maintain a habitat of creatures within one save.

  • Photo mode: frame and capture your favourite specimens.

  • Connected organ builds: shape production through placement and connections.

  • Mutations and synergies: combine upgrades to develop your own approach.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some of the content in Germline was created with the help of generative AI tools. This includes the in-game music soundtrack and some store and marketing artwork. All AI-assisted content was reviewed and selected by a developer. The creatures you see in the game are not made by AI. They are built by the game’s own procedural generation system from each organism’s genome
