About This Game

Wake the Wild

A 2D pixel-art adventure about waking a dead world. Crush fruit and the ground blooms, little dinosaurs come home and the ponds are yours to fish. Rebuild your camp, explore a world full of secrets and fight crystal creatures to free four giant machines.

Rook wakes in an underground sleep chamber, where his uncle hid him when the land grew too sick to live on. His uncle has one last thing to give him, an old Survey gauntlet. Up on the surface, crystal creatures wander where animals used to live, and four great machines are still pulling the life out of the land. With the gauntlet, Rook can fight back and start putting things right.

Controllers are fully supported, with button prompts that match Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo pads.

Features

It starts with an old orchard tree. Wake it, gather the fruit and crush one on dead ground, and grass and flowers grow back around you. Creatures come back to the patches you restore, and a few of those patches have something buried in them.

More than thirty kinds of creature live across the regions, most of them little dinosaurs, and each one keeps to its own home. Share your Wake with one and it goes into your Echo Log. The golden Radiants are rare, about one in a hundred.

Your gauntlet floats beside Rook and throws a spinning disc that cuts through crystal. You can yank it back through enemies, hold up a Ward bubble to block an attack, or drop out of the air in a slam that sends Wake lightning along the floor.

Out in the world you'll recover four Survey bearings. With them you can grapple across gaps, slip through grates, ride hoist lines and glide, and each one opens up places you saw earlier and couldn't get to.

Ordinary crystal creatures shatter like glass. The four machines, the Greatworks, take more work: each has crystal buried at its heart, and you have to last through its attacks until it opens, then hit it in the few seconds you get.

The ponds and hidden pools hold more than twenty kinds of fish, and each region has a few of its own.

Twelve resonance rooms are built around a beam of light you redirect, and the beam is also the floor you walk on. Get across and you earn an upgrade for your gauntlet.

You travel between regions by lift, tram, submarine and balloon. There are giant trees, a lava mountain, snowy islands, a temple under an island and a desert town where the machines have all stopped, with paths hidden in between.

Days turn to nights while you fish or look after the orchard. Underground you light the caves one torch at a time, and up top you might catch an eclipse, a passing comet or a shower of crystal meteors.
