About This Demo

You are either the lawn or the mower

Half the lobby are props: a cardboard box, a safety cone, a flower bucket, a compost bin. Stand still in a crowd of the real thing and you are garden furniture. Move at the wrong moment and you are a suspiciously mobile letterbox.

The rest are driving ride-on mowers. The blade only cuts while you're moving, every real prop you run over stuns you, and the lawn keeps a stripe everywhere you've been, so the hunt is as much about driving as about spotting.

Hiding still wins the round. Showing off wins the match.

Props score Daredevil points only while a mower can see them: the closer the mower and the more you move in its view, the faster your score climbs. Taunt under a hunter's nose for a bonus, or hold the button for a BIG TAUNT worth triple. Play it safe and you'll survive. Play it loud and you'll top the scoreboard, until you don't.

The lobby is a garden

Host or join and you don't wait on a menu: you're standing in a back garden with everyone else, and everyone is holding a weed whacker. Trim the long grass, leave stripes on the lawn, and whack a friend to BONK them flat on their back. Stand in the painted mower circle to volunteer as a mower, put a track on the jukebox, and pick your look at the shed's wardrobe.

When everyone's ready, the host walks up to the Big Mower and yanks the cord. The first pull sputters. The second backfires and the cord slaps them. The third one catches: IT'S ALIVE! The mowers are picked in front of everyone, then the Big Mower charges across the lawn, bowls the whole party over and wipes you into the match in a wall of grass clippings.

What's in the demo

  • The lobby garden: weed whackers, bonks, the mower circle, the jukebox and the Big Mower pull-start.
  • The Backyard map, under any of nine skies from Midday Sun to Thunderstorm, Snowfall and Midnight.
  • Online lobbies for up to 6 players through Steam, with friend invites, five-letter join codes, password-protected lobbies and Join by IP for LAN.
  • Solo play: drive the mower against AI props with six different behaviours, in rounds that get harder the longer you last, plus a Daily Chaos run everyone shares that day.
  • Two modes: Infected (caught props switch sides and join the hunt) and Elimination (out is out, and the last prop standing gets a showdown).
  • Host rules: rounds per match, number of mowers, hide and hunt timers, grass regrowth, lobby mutators such as Low Gravity, Caffeinated, Tiny Props and Wobbly Wheels, haunting ghosts, and Loud Lawn.
  • The full cosmetics shop, scaled to the demo: 14 characters, stackable attire, plushies, pride flags and paint, bought with coins you earn by playing. Cosmetic only, with no stat boosts.

Made to be retold

  • Ride-on mayhem. Dash, hop off ramps and ground-pound the lawn on a big landing to stun every prop nearby. Mowers are solid to each other: bumps honk, dash-rams spin the other driver out, and a bad landing flips the mower and throws its driver across the lawn.
  • The lawn dart. Charge it, watch the arc, lob it for an area stun. If you have a plushie equipped, the plushie is what you throw.
  • Props that fight back. Copy any prop you're standing next to, drop decoys of yourself, climb and cling to walls, lock in place, and keep one zap for when a blade is about to reach you.
  • Caught isn't finished. In Elimination you come back as a ghost that can honk to send hunters after nothing, make the real props wobble, and haunt a mower so it steers badly.
  • Proximity voice with jokes built in. Your voice comes out of your prop, pitched to its size. The Loud Lawn rule puts the whole lobby on open mic.
  • Instant replays. A picture-in-picture kill-cam, a Play of the Round on the round summary, and one button to save the clip as a GIF.
  • Thirteen end-of-round awards, from DAREDEVIL and BEST HAUNT to FIRST TO GO, on a result card you can save.
  • Built for streaming and couches. Streamer mode hides names, lobby names, passwords and join codes. Full gamepad support with matching button prompts, rebindable controls, UI scale from 80 to 150%, Reduced Motion and adjustable FOV.

What the full game adds

  • Nine arenas instead of one, from City Park and Farmyard to Downtown and Back Alley
  • Lobbies of up to 40 players
  • Four mowers: the Ride-On plus the Garden Tractor, the Old Timer and the Combine
  • More characters and attire, and a dog companion to bring along
  • The in-game Map Maker with Steam Workshop publishing, and an Egg Hunt map with hidden cosmetics
  • Steam achievements
The demo is its own Steam app, so demo lobbies only match with other demo players.
