A long-range shooting sim built on real exterior ballistics. You read the wind and wait for the lull between two gusts. After the shot, you see the trajectory in 3D and where the wind carried the bullet. Targets are steel plates and ring targets. No combat, no blood.

Coming Soon To Early Access

The developers of this game intend to release as a work in progress, developing with the feedback of players.

Note: Games in Early Access are not complete and may or may not change further. If you are not excited to play this game in its current state, then you should wait to see if the game progresses further in development. Learn more

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“HOLDOVER is already playable. In long-range shooting every detail matters: how the wind reads, how the scope responds, how the ballistics behave. Early Access brings that feedback in early, while everything can still be adjusted. It also turns up bugs that only show once many people play on very different PCs.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Probably 6 to 12 months, depending on feedback and on how the planned content develops.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“More targets and ranges, polish for every landscape, more languages, Steam achievements and competitions. Ballistics, controls and performance keep improving with player feedback. What comes first depends on what players miss most.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable single-player across several ranges in different landscapes. A precision rifle with a scope, real turret clicks and reticles in mrad or MOA, instruments for wind and distance, several shooting positions with rests, weather and time of day. You can look at every shot afterwards as a 3D trajectory. Interface in English and German, quality presets and rebindable controls. Some landscapes are still getting visual polish.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price will go up step by step as more content is added. Early Access is the cheapest time to buy.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Bug reports, ideas and wishes go through the Steam discussions and the Discord server. Bigger changes are discussed there openly, and the update notes say which suggestions made it into the game. "Save bug report" in the settings packs logs and system info into one ZIP file. Nothing is uploaded automatically.”

About This Game

Long-range precision shooting

HOLDOVER is a shooting sim for people who like reading wind and judging distance. You lie at the firing point, and through the scope the target across the slope is barely wider than one mark on your reticle. You make one last correction and breathe out. Then the shot, and a noticeable wait before the bullet gets there.

You shoot at steel and ring targets. There's no combat and no blood.

Wind and patience

In many games, wind is a number at the edge of the screen and the bullet lands roughly where the reticle sits. Here, that's where the work starts. Every shot is computed with real exterior ballistics. Nothing is rolled. At long range, a light breeze is enough for a miss. You read the wind from the landscape and the windsock. Often the best call is to stay down and wait for the lull between two gusts.

Gear like at the range

The riflescope has elevation and windage turrets with real clicks, and what you've dialed shows on screen. Reticles come in mrad or MOA. You have instruments for wind and distance, but no calculator that turns their readings into a hold. How much you set up yourself before the shot is your call. Technical terms are explained in plain words, so you don't need to be a competitive shooter. Units can be metric or US.

After the shot

You can look at every shot afterwards as a 3D trajectory. Turn the view around and follow the path to see where the wind pushed the bullet and how far it dropped. That tells you whether the miss came from the wind or from the range.

Out there

The firing points sit in different landscapes, some among trees, some open above a wide valley. Each one has its own light and its own wind. When the sun is low, haze hangs over the valley and the targets get harder to make out.

Non-violent

People and animals are never targets. There are no injuries and no blood.

Early Access

HOLDOVER launches in Early Access and is still early in development. The interface is in English and German, with more languages to follow. What gets added after launch depends partly on feedback from the first players. This page will show more of the game in the weeks before release.
