What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Elderwood is built around a shared world, and we want its community to help shape how that world grows. Early Access gives players the opportunity to experience the game’s existing progression, exploration, and clan warfare while providing feedback on combat balance, the economy, and long-term goals. It also gives us time to improve stability and performance under real multiplayer conditions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Elderwood to remain in Early Access for approximately 3–8 months. Our priority is to improve stability, balance, performance, and the depth of progression before moving to a full release. We plan to share development updates and communicate our progress throughout Early Access. This timeframe is an estimate and may change based on player feedback and the work needed to prepare for full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to build on Elderwood’s existing foundation with additional quests, encounters, equipment, and activities across the world. We also aim to refine clan warfare, improve the player experience, strengthen long-term progression, and support larger multiplayer populations through further optimization and testing. These plans may change as development progresses and community feedback helps identify priorities.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Elderwood currently offers a playable online world with persistent characters, character customization, quests, gathering, crafting, fishing, cooking, and combat skills that progress toward level 99.

Players can fight with melee weapons, bows, and magic, or support allies through bard songs. Social features include friends, parties, clans, and dedicated chat channels. The world also includes player trading through a marketplace, banks, inns with selectable respawn points, group raids, global leaderboards, and capturable clan keeps with repairable defenses and ownership benefits.

Designated PvP regions feature the loss of carried items and gold on death. The game remains in active development, and players should expect bugs, balance adjustments, maintenance, and ongoing performance improvements. Large-scale multiplayer performance is still being tested.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan for Elderwood to remain free to play during Early Access and after full release. Optional purchases are planned to include cosmetic capes and titles, mini pets with small gathering XP bonuses, and additional character slots. These purchases therefore include both cosmetic items and gameplay utility. Available items and their pricing may change during development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to gather feedback through Steam discussions, our community Discord, and the game’s built-in feedback and reporting tools. Player experiences will help us identify bugs, evaluate combat and economy balance, and prioritize improvements to progression and world activities.

We intend to share patch notes and development updates so players can follow changes and understand what we are working on. Community suggestions will inform development alongside testing and our overall vision for Elderwood.”

About This Game

Your first catch. Your first forged sword. Your first battle alongside a clan.

In Elderwood, small beginnings lead to lasting ambitions. Grow from a newcomer in Greenhaven into a skilled crafter, a formidable fighter, or the bard who keeps a group standing when a battle turns against them.

Inspired by classic online RPGs, Elderwood brings skill-based progression into a 3D fantasy world where your character’s story grows with every adventure.

A classic adventure, built with modern technology
Created entirely in JavaScript and powered by Node.js, Elderwood brings a persistent 3D fantasy world to life through modern web technology.

Build your character through what you do

Train combat and gathering skills toward level 99. Fish, mine, gather resources, cook supplies, and craft equipment to prepare for increasingly dangerous regions. Choose what to pursue and work toward the milestones that matter to you.

Fight with more than your weapon

Automatic attacks keep combat moving, while manual decisions shape the fight. Time your food and potions, cast magic, switch equipment, or wield a lute to support nearby allies with songs that strengthen, heal, and hasten your group.

Make your clan a force in the world

Form a clan, rally your allies, and battle for capturable keeps. Break through enemy gates, repair your defenses with collected materials, and defend the walls with arrows and magic. Owning a keep grants access to exclusive merchants and benefits—but another clan can take it from you.

Choose your risks

Venture into Darkwood and other PvP regions, where rival players can become your greatest threat. Death drops your carried items and gold, giving every encounter something to lose—and something to fight for.

Keep reaching further

Discover quests across expanding regions, tackle group raids, pursue endgame equipment, and compete on global leaderboards. Between adventures, trade through the NPC-run Bazaar, bank your valuables, and set an inn as your home.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI tools assisted in creating store and library artwork, branding, and written promotional material. These materials were reviewed and selected by the developer. Gameplay screenshots were captured from the actual game, including staged sessions with simulated players.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Elderwood features stylized fantasy violence. Players fight monsters and other players using melee weapons, bows, and magic. Characters can be defeated in combat, and deaths in designated PvP areas can result in the loss of carried items. Combat uses low-poly graphics without graphic gore or dismemberment.

Online interactions include player-written chat and character names.
