What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Gregor’s Tithe is made by a small independent developer, and co-op games live or die by how they feel with real crews. The core of the game is in place: raiding, sailing, Gregor and his tithe, solo or with a crew of up to six. But many of the big decisions are still open, and I want players to help make them:

which places to raid next;
which new enemies to add;
what the gold you earn should be spent on;
how hard Gregor should be on a crew of one compared with a crew of six.

Early Access lets me build the rest of the game with real groups of players: fixing bugs quickly, balancing difficulty and the economy (loot, prices and Gregor’s tithe) around how people actually raid, and adding the content the community wants most. I plan to keep developing it through to a full release, with regular updates along the way.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I’m aiming for a full release in early to mid 2027, but this depends on player feedback and on how much the game changes because of it. I’ll post updates on the plan as it firms up.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to build on everything that’s in the game now. Current plans include:

More raid destinations, each with its own settlements, people and dungeon.
More enemy types, and more variety in the existing dungeons.
Voice lines for Gregor.
More ways to spend the money earned by raiding.
Achievements.
Balancing of difficulty, loot values and Gregor’s tithe based on player feedback
Bug fixes, performance improvements and quality-of-life changes throughout.

Nothing on this list is final: what players enjoy and ask for will decide what gets added, changed or dropped, and in what order.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“You can play solo or in online co-op for up to 6 players. The Early Access version includes:

4 raid destinations, each generated fresh every voyage: the Old Settlement, the Monastery, the Kingdom, and Crown and Crypt
3 dungeon types: catacombs, mines and a castle keep, each generated when you enter.
Your longboat, steered by whoever is on the drum, with speed upgrades and a deck that carries your crew, captives and loot.
Gregor and his tithe: pay him each day from what you bring home, complete his quests to lower the bill, or earn a strike. Three strikes and it’s game over.
Raiding: burn villages, dig up graves, capture townsfolk, kidnap a king, and sell your haul to the merchant
Kingdom guards who react to the crimes they see, and night creatures that grow faster and stronger as the game progresses.
A paint studio to paint your Viking, your banners and your longboat
5 playable instruments with songs your crew can play together
Day and night, and saved games

This is an unfinished game: expect bugs, balance that will change between updates, Gregor without a voice yet, and more content to come.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to keep the price the same during Early Access and at full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will directly decide what we work on next: which bugs we fix first, how difficulty and the economy are balanced, and which new content gets added. I will read and reply on the Steam Community discussions. I’ll post update notes on Steam for each patch so you can see what changed because of your feedback.”

About This Game

You and up to 5 friends must raid and pillage to satisfy Gregor, or face his very, very large and mighty wrath.

The game starts in Gregor’s Viking village. Buy torches and banners to claim and pillage distant lands, and speak to Gregor for a clue about what to do when you get there. When you arrive, you’ll be given quests for that destination; complete them to earn a discount on Gregor’s next tithe.

Islands
Every destination is generated afresh each voyage, pieced together from buildings, people and landscapes, so no two raids play out quite the same.

Dungeons
Each destination has a dungeon to explore: mines, catacombs or a castle keep. Some must be unlocked by doing something on the surface first.

Burning houses
Set a house alight and any villagers inside will flee. It burns down to ash, with a chance of loot left in the ruins.

Keys and locked dungeons
Depending on where you raid, keys can be found buried with the dead or among the remains of burnt houses. Use them to unlock the dungeon door.

Customisation
The game comes with ready-made designs, but you’re free to paint your Viking, your banners and your longboat however you like.

Gregor’s tithe
Everything you bring home from a raid is subject to Gregor’s tithe. Fall behind on his demands and he gets angry. Three strikes, and you don’t want to face his wrath.

Gregor’s Tithe is in Early Access: expect bugs, balance changes and new content as development continues with the community’s feedback.
