About This Game

Move the light

Drag a lantern across your workbench and watch moths and fireflies drift into its glow. Click a visitor to inspect its species, rarity and value, then choose Capture specimen. The bug goes into your field case, and a new species becomes a museum exhibit.

Work out what each species wants

Arrange lights and lures on the workbench. Some visitors need a stronger lure, a dish inside matching light, or a lure left in shadow. Some avoid particular equipment. Mythic species need the right moon phase. A matching setup makes a species possible, never certain. At dawn, field notes show which condition was missing, or confirm a perfect setup when a visitor did not arrive.

Choose your upgrades

Spend your capture earnings at the dawn shop. Buy equipment or a larger field case, and upgrade lights and lures to level 3. Stronger lights widen their glow. Stronger lures improve the chances of Rare, Epic and Mythic visitors that use them. Beetles, spiders and ants each need their own habitat before you can capture them.

Build your museum

Collected bugs become moving bell-jar exhibits. Click a jar for a close view, or drag jars to rearrange a gallery. The full game holds 26 species in five families: moths, fireflies, beetles, spiders and ants. In the nursery, pair two captured species from one family to bring a hybrid visitor into your garden, then capture it too.

Glow Trap is in development. Screenshots show the current build, including beetles and the nursery. The animated clips show its moth and firefly content. Play with mouse and keyboard; there is no controller support. Windows and macOS versions are planned, and system requirements will be confirmed after testing.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

NBD2 is an AI game development studio. As a solo indie dev who is unlikely to ever make a dime from any of my games, there's no other way I could bring my ideas to life.

Glow Trap was created using generative AI during development, including its artwork, animation and visuals, its sound effects and ambient sound, and its game code. All AI generation took place during development. The game does not generate AI content or code during play or connect to an external AI service. The game's translations into other languages were also made with AI during development.

I recognize AI in game development is an extremely sensitive topic and I appreciate both sides. I only hope the game is fun.

The goal should always be making something that human beings will enjoy.
