About This Game

You don't play a hero. You play a bloodline.

Kinhenge is an online survival game played on persistent dedicated servers. It starts in the Stone Age, and from there every generation carries your family forward, era after era, toward the technology of the future. Your character is born, grows old and dies in 18 real days. Raise children, teach them what your family knows and protect your heir: when you die, of old age or by a spear, you continue as your son or daughter. Lose the whole bloodline and the story of your family is over.

The older the bloodline, the stronger it grows

Every generation inherits traits from the one before. The oldest bloodlines keep the most traits, so the longer your family survives, the more gifted your children are born. A family that lasts becomes a dynasty that others fear.

Knowledge you can lose

All the knowledge of a family is kept in a single book, and that book can be stolen or destroyed. Hide it, guard it, defend it. Lose the book and generations of wisdom are gone.

The Kin

Every family raises a Kin: a standing stone carved with the family name. It founds your village, marks your land and holds your people together. If your bloodline falls, the village belongs to whoever takes it, and only the Kin remembers you were there.

Survive, build, fight

  • Gather and craft from two stones to knives, axes, spears and bows, with long and realistic recipe chains.
  • Plan your village with the hammer: huts, walls, palisades and workbenches that can be damaged and collapse.
  • Directional melee combat: attack and parry in eight directions plus a thrust. Every blow leaves a wound, and wounds bleed until they are bandaged.
  • Hunt deer and boars, fish with a spear, swim, dive and climb with bare hands.
  • Stay warm, fed and healthy: hunger, thirst, cold and injuries are part of every day.

A living island

A persistent 4 x 4 km island with beaches, a central lake, a ring of mountains, sea cliffs and caves. A living forest of more than 80,000 trees grows and spreads over time, with climate by altitude and dynamic weather.

The Island Remembers

The people who live on the island are not scenery. Every NPC remembers what it has been through and how each family has treated it, and makes its own decisions from the habitat around it and from what happens on the island: a wolf seen at night, a bush heavy with berries, an attack, a stranger who lent a hand. What one of them learns soon reaches the others.
  • They remember dangers, food, safe paths and every family that helped or hurt them.
  • They decide where to look for food, where to shelter and what to avoid, from the land around them and the events of the island.
  • They talk in the same chat as the players, and news travels from person to person and from village to village, including what people say about you.
  • They share useful information and useful objects with one another.
  • They come together and found villages of their own.
  • They learn whom to trust. If you want NPCs in your village, first earn their respect and their trust: it grows slowly and is lost quickly.

From the Stone Age to the technology of the future

Every server starts in the Stone Age, but that is only where the story begins. Each generation inherits what the one before learned and carries it further: the Copper, Bronze and Iron Ages, antiquity, the Middle Ages, the modern age, the industrial age, the present day and on to the technology of the future. Every era is part of the game, and it is the players who unlock each technology and each era, together on their server, by discovering, building and passing on what they know. Families and towns grow together with the NPCs who live in them, and every server evolves as fast as its people push their technology.

Play together, or against each other

Join other families on the same server, trade, form alliances or go to war. Talk to the whole server in the global chat, or only to the people around you with proximity chat (20 m), and every village has a notice board for laws, contracts and bounties.

Free to play, never pay to win

Kinhenge is free to play. Optional subscriptions and dynastic cosmetics are planned: they will give comfort and prestige, never power.
