Run a damp little shop that makes passports for people who can't get them the normal way. Pose nervous customers for the photo, type up their papers on a 1998 computer, print, bind, haggle, and hope it all holds up at the border. Nothing has to be perfect. Just legit enough.

About This Game

It doesn't have to be perfect. Just legit enough.

It's October 2008. You rent a damp back room with a cheap camera, a taped-up inkjet and a beige computer called OFFICIAL-ISH 98. The sign on the door says PASSPORT PHOTOS. The people who come in want more than photos.

Every customer has a reason: a family to reach, a job across the border, a debt to outrun, or a story they refuse to tell. Take their money, take their photo, make the document, and send them on their way. Whether it worked, you'll find out days later. Sometimes never.

Get the photo right

Sit them on the stool, pick a backdrop and frame the shot. Then the hard part: getting a nervous stranger to look normal.
  • Drag their head to turn it, slide their shoulders, zoom and pan the camera
  • Ask them to look at the camera, relax their face, open their eyes, hold still
  • Glasses off, hat off. Some of them have a spare pair in their pocket
  • People blink, fidget and slip back into old habits. The cheap camera has shutter lag
  • Review every shot, crop it to the country's rules, keep the best one

Make the document

Open OFFICIAL-ISH 98 and build it field by field: template, category, cover colour, page count, names, dates, document number and photo. Nothing gets checked for you. Read it over, print it, bind it, and hand it across the counter.

  • 10 countries, each with its own document rules, from France and Germany to Japan and the Emirates
  • Rules change in the news, and your handbook goes out of date until you buy the update
  • Old printers jam and smudge. Shred the bad pages and try again
  • Quality is hidden: the photo, the information and the formatting all count, and some mistakes count a lot more than others

Keep the shop alive

  • Haggle. Every customer has a price they'll really pay. Push too hard and they walk out
  • Juggle orders. Rush jobs, come-back-tomorrow pickups and a bench full of people waiting
  • Pay the bills. Rent is due every day, and paper and booklets aren't free
  • Watch your reputation and your heat. The better you get, the more people talk, and not all of them are customers
  • Read the inbox. Thank-you notes, complaints, and silence
  • Live with the world. Airport crackdowns, demand surges, power cuts, internet outages and a printer that picks the worst day to die

From bedsheet to studio

Start with a 2-megapixel camera and a bedsheet pinned to the wall. Save up for better cameras, printers, computers and a real photo studio. Every upgrade changes how the job plays, and the shop changes with it, from stained plastic chairs to a leather bench.

Features

  • A pixel art shop that changes with the time of day, the weather and the kit you own
  • Procedurally generated customers with 14 personality traits, hidden stats and 12 reasons to need a new identity. Some of them come back
  • A recurring story about Samir, a nervous man in a red jacket, and what happens if you help him
  • A full photo session for every customer, with 9 head poses, expressions, blinking and accessories
  • A late-90s desktop with a document editor, orders, a client database, news and an equipment shop
  • Delayed outcomes: your work gets tested at borders you never see

LEGIT ENOUGH is a work of fiction. All characters are invented, and the document rules in the game are made up for gameplay. They do not describe any real country's documents or security features.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Legit Enough is a pixel-art shop sim about running an illegal document business. You make fake passports for customers with their own reasons, from family reunions to running from debts. There is no violence, gore or sexual content. Some customers are drunk, some are criminals, some messages contain mild language, and the humor is dark and about crime and borders.
