About This Demo

Command a growing force of Viking heroes, seeking to claim the favor of the gods in a dangerous fantasy version of Europe, in this classic turn-based strategy game. The Norse gods play an active role in player decisions, as they compete with (and against) trolls, elves, dwarfs and other creatures of Norse legend. Unlike other strategy games, building an empire is not necessarily the ultimate objective. Hammer of the Gods introduced the combat system later popularized by Heroes of Might and Magic. 

In the demo, players control the human Viking faction as they serve the whims of the first seven gods and goddesses. While the other factions are not active in the demo, Vikings still raid and conquer towns and villages, raise their armies, and face attack by knights and their retinues.

In the full game, the player competes against other players to earn the favor of the Norse gods and become the Hammer of the Gods. Raid coastal villages, conquer cities and then link them together by building roads. Next, build castles to protect them. The particular path that the player follows to victory will vary based on the "family" of gods chosen at the beginning of the game. Maintaining honor in the eyes of the other Vikings is important throughout the game. Claim a mythical human, elf, troll or dwarf city as the base of your raids and conquests. Any of these heroes may become Odin's chosen leader on Midgard by completing his quest and ensuring the player's place in legend.
