About This Game

The rain outside hasn't stopped. His umbrella is dry.

Hong Kong, 1999. Under the arcades of an old street stands a paper offerings shop. Your uncle has gone away for a few days and left you a letter and the shop: incense and candles by day, paper offering orders by night.

Make every offering by hand

Fold gold paper ingots. Ink the name of the dead onto a bag of paper clothes. Paint a face onto a paper figure, stroke by stroke. Glue together a paper car, piece by piece. Customers can tell careful work from careless. You decide what to make first.

Wet umbrellas, a dry umbrella

Every customer drops their umbrella in the bucket by the door, still dripping. But one umbrella is always dry. Your uncle left a single rule: if his umbrella is dry, do not write a name for him. Whose name is on the slip he hands you? Will you write it?

A red card

Uncle's letter says: the red card in the drawer, don't take that order. It is a ghost wedding. The bride is Leung Yuk-fan; the groom's name has been blotted out with ink. Late at night the radio tells an old story about a wedding: the bridal sedan reached the door, and the groom's name was still blank.

It moves only when you look away

The power goes out. You have matches, the candles and incense on the altar, and that little light to finish tonight's work. There is something in the shop that you made with your own hands. As long as you are looking at it, it does not move.
