A first-person power-empire sim. The AI boom has swallowed the grid: start with nothing in a town run by Evil Corp's coal plant, build solar, wind and batteries, wire them up, and knock on doors to sell power until the whole town runs on green energy for lower prices.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Last Kilowatt is a big simulation with many systems that work together: power production, batteries, customers, cables, research and a living town. The core game is playable and fun now, and I want players' help balancing the economy and progression and finding bugs before the full release. Early Access lets me build the rest of the game around how people actually play it. I am committed to updating the game regularly and seeing it through to a full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently plan for the game to be in Early Access for about 1–2 years, depending on development progress and player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan to add:

More power machines and more ways to produce and store energy
More plots of land to buy and build on
More NPCs, customers and businesses in the town to sell power to
Possible changes and additions to the map
More sound and music
Balance changes, UI polish, performance improvements and bug fixes”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable from a new save. You can:

Build your own power company with solar panels, wind turbines and batteries, from small DIY setups to large machines
Knock on doors to sign up homes, apartment blocks, businesses and the city as customers
Connect your machines with power cables, junction boxes and overhead power lines
Research new technology, buy land, and use helper robots
Collect and recycle trash, and turn it into biogas power
Explore a living town with traffic, pedestrians, EV charging customers, day/night and weather
See "About This Game" for more details. Expect some bugs, balance issues and unfinished sound.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We're not planning on changing the price when we leave early access”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will directly decide what I fix, balance and add next. You can post bug reports and suggestions in the Steam Community discussion forums and I read all of them. I also read reviews and will run playtests for bigger updates. Each update will come with patch notes explaining what changed.

About This Game

Power is scarce. Make it yours.

The AI boom has swallowed the grid. Evil Corp's coal plant still runs this small town, and you start with nothing: no money, no power, just streets full of litter. Build your way up from a single 50 W panel to a power company that keeps the whole town's lights on.

Build, store, sell

  • Start with what you have: pick up litter for cash, then buy your first solar panel and car battery.
  • Build solar, wind and batteries, from scrap-built turbines to sun-tracking arrays and megawatt storage.
  • Run real cables between your machines, and string power lines to new land.
  • Sell power to phones, scooters, electric cars and highway traffic.
  • Knock on doors and sign up houses, flats, shops and the landfill. Every customer you win is one Evil Corp loses.

Keep the lights on

Take on the contracts that matter. City Hall's street lighting deal fines you $5,000 for every hour the town goes dark. The sun moves, the wind turns, machines wear out, and the nights are long, so plan your storage.

Watch the smoke: Evil Corp's stacks keep burning for as long as the town is theirs.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some 3D models in the game were built using AI-assisted modelling scripts, and some sound effects were created with AI-written sound synthesis code rather than recorded. All of this content was reviewed and edited by the developer. Most characters, buildings and environment art come from licensed, human-made asset packs. The game does not generate any content with AI while you play.
