What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Double or Rubble is a complete story you can play from the opening bus ride to the ending, but it's a big game, around 20 to 30 hours, and its economy and balance have only been played in depth by a handful of people. We'd rather finish tuning it with real players than guess. We also have more planned for the mine and for the Folk that we want your feedback on before we lock it in, and a few lines are still to be voiced.

Early Access lets you play now, tell us where it drags or breaks, and see the game get better update by update.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect around 6 to 12 months. We will leave Early Access when the full economy has been played through by a good number of people, the balance is settled, and the bug list is quiet. If it needs longer, we will tell you here.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The story, the Mine, the Office, the card game and Jesper's Den are all in and playable from the first day to the ending. For 1.0 we plan to add more variety to mining, more to do with the Folk, the last unvoiced lines recorded, some art improved where we can make it better, and an economy balanced from real playthroughs. We'll also keep adding the settings and display options players ask for, such as key rebinding. This list may change with player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Playable from the opening bus ride through to the ending, about 20 to 30 hours depending on how you play. Currently in: the full voiced story from the shack to the Deed; days and nights, stamina, the Mining Office with five levels, contracts from five clients and a hired crew; four seams to mine with a rhythm-tap bonus, combos, hot streaks and a Folk helper beside your rock; 30 Folk to free from the capsule machines, each with a card, hearts, favourite treats, trips and memories; the cutting bench rhythm game with sixteen songs, Jesper's Den and the Three Seams card game; pickaxes, 28 skins, keychains and charms, the Collection Book, goals, 46 Steam achievements and Steam Cloud saves.

Known to be unfinished: a few lines are not yet voiced, and the late-game balance has had less testing than the early hours.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may rise at 1.0. Early Access players pay the lower price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We run a Discord with a bug-report forum where every report is read. Every update gets a Steam news post saying what changed and why. We use balance feedback from players (how long each stage takes, where people stop) to tune the economy, and the most-requested ideas go to the top of our roadmap, which we'll post as a Steam announcement.”

About This Game

Help an old man get his mine back.

Double or Rubble is a relaxed, colorful mining game with a crooked heart. Swing your pickaxe, cut stones open on the beat, and bet what's inside against the smuggest card sharp in the quarry, because the only way to free the little stone-and-crystal creatures sealed in his capsule machines is to beat him at his own game.

"Six Folk make a wall. Bring the walls home, and this mine is ours again."

— Wick

Wick lost his mine on a bet. He's too worn out to swing a pickaxe any more, so he's hired you. He's kind, he's scared, and he isn't telling you everything about how it happened.

The mine's old residents, the Folk, are sealed away inside the capsule machines of Jesper Crooke, the House. He's charming when he wins and considerably less charming when he doesn't. Win them back one at a time, bring them home to the Hollow, and find out what really happened at that table.

  • Mine the quarry. Break stone seams, crystal veins and jade lodes for coins and stones. Hire a crew to keep swinging while you're busy, and run your mine day by day from the Mining Office.

  • Cut on the beat. Take your stones to the cutting bench and strike the rings in time with the music, across sixteen rhythm charts. Every perfect cut pays off.

  • Bet the House. Three shuffled stones: your win, Jesper's win, or a tie. Win, and he matches every core. Lose, and he keeps the lot. Push your luck or play it safe. Double or rubble: it's all in the title.

  • Free the Folk. Pull the capsule machines and see who comes out. Collect keychains, pickaxe skins (some of them animated), and the stories behind every Folk in your Book.

  • Take a seat at the card table. Build a team of Folk cards, set your lanes and roll the dice against Wick, your contract clients and Jesper himself. Win packs, spare cards and rewards as you climb the levels.

  • Rebuild the walls. Six Folk make a wall. Fill four walls, light the Portal with Lodelight, and cross into the Hollowlands.

  • A warm, colorful world of illustrated cutscenes, from the bus ride to the shack to the Portal, with a story that rewards paying attention.

  • Bets that matter: the cutting bench, the House, and a card game in Jesper's Den where nothing is quite what it seems.

  • A growing village. Every Folk you free comes home to the Hollow, a warm cave town that fills up as you play. Collect keepsakes from the Skin Machine and watch them turn up around town.

  • A deep skill tree, a crew to hire, contracts to take, and mining days with real payoffs.

  • The Hollowlands: a final area full of puzzles and surprises.

  • A Book of every Folk you've met, and an achievement for nearly everything you can do.

  • Play at your own pace, with no pressure, no real-money purchases, and no real-money gambling. Everything is paid in the game's own coins.

For people who like gentle games with a little mischief.

Double or Rubble is made by DigiKerr Games, a small independent studio. If you've ever wanted a game that feels like a quiet afternoon with a very suspicious cardsharp, welcome to the camp.
