A co-op comedy for 1–4 players. You're the town's under-qualified public works crew: fix potholes, fallen trees and escaped livestock before the clock runs out, while every dent you put in the town comes out of your paycheck. Try not to run over the townsfolk.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“City Services is playable and fun right now, but co-op comedy only works if it's tested by real crews with real lag, real friends and real bad decisions. Early Access lets us ship updates every week or two and tune jobs, damage bills and chaos around how people actually play, not how we think they will.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“[About 6–12 months.] We'll leave Early Access when online play is rock solid and the planned content below is in.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“- Smoother online play: better movement and truck syncing at high ping, and steadier late joins
- More jobs, with the goal of 30+ calls
- More of the town to drive through and break
- New townsfolk and animals
- Steam achievements and cloud saves for crew records
- Gamepad button rebinding
- More holiday events, costumes and side gigs
- Balance passes on wages, damage prices and chaos modifiers based on player feedback”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The full game loop is in. You can play solo or with up to 4 players online, with Steam friend invites and built-in voice chat. There are 22 jobs across one town, four shift types, chaos modifiers, secret side gigs, a damage-billing paycheck system, ragdoll physics, crew records, end-of-shift photos and seasonal holiday decorations and costumes. Expect bugs, especially in online play at high ping, and expect things to change between updates.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may rise at full release as more content is added. Early Access players get the game at its lowest price, and every update during Early Access is included at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Bug reports and suggestions go in the Steam discussions, and we read them. Every update ships with patch notes in-game and on Steam, and many of the changes so far came straight from play test sessions. Players will help decide which jobs, holidays and chaos modifiers come next.”

About This Game

We fix things. Mostly.

City Services is a co-op comedy for 1–4 players. You and your friends are Crew 12, the town's only public works crew, and nobody on it is qualified. Dispatch calls in a pothole, a fallen tree or a couch on the curb. You pile into the truck, race across town and try to sort it out before the clock runs down. Try not to hit anything on the way. You will hit something on the way.

22 jobs, all of them going wrong

  • Chainsaw a fallen tree, then drag the logs out of the road before they drift back in
  • Wrestle a two-person couch into a truck bed that is barely big enough
  • Clamp a burst water main while the geyser knocks everyone flat
  • Herd an escaped cow, sheep, pig and goat into a pen in the mall car park
  • Plus potholes, sinkholes, storm drains, streetlights, graffiti, parade cleanup and more

Only one of you has the clipboard

On every call, one worker gets the job card. Everyone else has to listen. Built-in voice chat means you'll hear exactly how badly it's going.

The damage comes out of your paycheck

Almost everything in town breaks if you drive into it fast enough: streetlights, signs, fences, mailboxes, bus shelters, the fountain, parked cars. Every dent pops up with its price. Fast work pays more, but the bill comes straight out of your wages, and a crew that wrecks the town finishes the shift owing the city money. Go too far over budget and the supervisor sends everyone home.

Floppy coworkers

Get flung by the truck, thrown by a coworker or slip in a puddle and you go ragdoll. Get knocked out and you lie there seeing stars until someone slaps you awake or tosses you in the truck bed. You can also pick up the townsfolk. They have asked you to stop.

No two shifts go the same way

  • Chaos modifiers: rain, wind, missing equipment, a cursed tool, or a surprise supervisor visit where everything you break is billed twice
  • Secret side gigs: each worker gets a private goal like "honk 15 times" or "never drive." The results board reveals them all.
  • Questionable food: break-room snacks and street finds with side effects like moon legs, giant heads, reversed controls and burps that knock people over
  • Incident photos: the worst moments get taped up next to the end-of-shift clipboard, along with an itemized invoice of who broke what

Also

  • Gary, a traffic cone with googly eyes. Bring him home.
  • Holiday decorations and costumes throughout the year
  • Crew records and a Days Without an Incident counter. It is usually zero.
  • Play solo or online with up to 4 players
