About This Game

The Lagoon's light has gone out. Four Glyphs are lost somewhere in the deep, and one small octopus is going to bring them home.

My Octopus Friend is a cozy, kid-friendly action roguelite. Every dive takes you through freshly grown seas: sunlit coral gardens, a drowned shipwreck, a frozen shelf, a sunken palace, volcanic vents and more. Wherever the current splits, you choose the way down, so all nine seas are yours to find. Every room is shaped differently, and every run is different.

Dress up as you dive

122 treasures to find: 109 to wear (hats, glasses, outfits and things to hold) and 13 buddies, plus 39 items and charms. Many change how you play, and your octopus wears one of every kind at once, plus up to six things to hold, each in its own tentacle. Pair a wizard hat with a mage robe, or a sword with a trident, and discover 106 synergies.

Pick your prize

Beat a guardian or finish a trial and two treasures float up side by side. Look at both on picture cards, then keep the one you like best.

Swim like a real octopus

When a room is safe, hold the spin button and your octopus jets off like a real one, hopping right over holes and rocks. Stand still for a moment and it might juggle your gems, hide under a shell, or give a buddy a pat on the head.

Make friends

Buddies tag along and help out: penguins, starfish, seahorses, pufferlings, a seal pup, a baby turtle and even a baby octopus.

Face the guardians

Nine big, friendly-but-fierce bosses, from the Reef Ripper to the Walrus King and the Nautilus Empress.

Grow your Lagoon

Bring all four Glyphs home and Bramble the builder crab follows you back. Then spend stars and pearls to build a trophy hall, a bubble café, a kelp garden and more. New neighbours move in, and some pack you treats for your next dive.

Dress up, then say cheese

At Mira's Mirror Pool your octopus can try on any treasure you've found, just for fun, and keep the look for your dives too. Then hop over to the Photo Spot: pick a pose, a filter and a frame, and snap a picture to keep.

Lean over the sea in VR (Windows - BETA)

Put on a headset and the Lagoon becomes a tabletop world floating in front of you. Lean in to look around, grab the table with both grips to lift, lower, zoom and turn it, and see your own octopus tentacles where your hands are. The minimap sits on your left tentacle, so you can glance at it like a watch. Want to share? Set the headset controllers to look-only, and a friend or child can watch the dive in VR while you play on the monitor with a gamepad. VR works with OpenXR headsets through SteamVR (tested on HP Reverb G2) and opens the game in Microsoft Edge or Chrome.
