About This Game

You have inherited a small print workshop and a cabinet of uncatalogued prints.

Each print begins as a Working Proof on the puzzle table. Spread the pieces out, sort them wherever you have room, assemble sections away from the board, rotate pieces freely, and put the image back together at your own pace.

When the puzzle is finished, the completed print is revealed and filed into your Cabinet.

The collection includes archival photographs, postcards, posters, natural-history material, mineral specimens, correspondence, maps, and original Benchlight compositions. Every print is chosen and prepared individually for the game.

24 Prints in Two Albums

Post & Passage

Streets, buildings, interiors, ships, travel material, postcards, posters, correspondence, and other records of places and movement.

Field & Facet

Natural-history prints, botanical material, minerals, specimens, and original Benchlight specimen compositions.

Completing prints fills each album and unlocks additional material.

Choose Your Piece Style

Impression Cabinet includes several authored Piece Styles with different shapes and visual rhythms. Choose 12, 24, 48, 96, or 192 pieces. A smaller puzzle can still be difficult when the cut gives you few obvious landmarks or familiar edges.

  • Move pieces anywhere in the available workspace

  • Sort pieces outside the puzzle area

  • Connect pieces into movable clusters

  • Rotate pieces freely

  • Rotate in exact 90-degree steps

  • Remove placed pieces

  • Save a puzzle and continue later

Rotation, image structure, piece shape, and the cut all contribute to the difficulty.

Built for Mouse and Touch

The puzzle table was designed with Windows tablets and touch-screen PCs in mind alongside ordinary mouse controls. Pieces can be grabbed, moved, sorted, and arranged directly on the table, with the same workspace available on a touchscreen laptop, tablet, desktop touch display, or mouse-driven PC.

Working Proofs and Finished Prints

Many archival prints begin with the wear, fading, weak contrast, discoloration, or reproduction problems present in the material used to build the Working Proof.

Completing the puzzle reveals the finished version.

Some archival images receive restoration work in Adobe Photoshop. AI-assisted Photoshop tools were used selectively to help repair and restore existing source images. No images in Impression Cabinet were generated by AI. The archival images already existed; AI was used only as part of the restoration workflow.

Second Look

Selected completed prints include a Second Look. Open the finished image at a larger scale, zoom into it, follow three authored clues, and find details you may have overlooked during the puzzle.

Second Look is optional bonus content and does not block album completion.

The Cabinet

Finished prints are filed into albums inside the Cabinet. The workshop presentation uses paper, proofs, drawers, correspondence, registration marks, print-shop typography, and restrained physical sound.

Soundtrack

Music is selected according to the subject of the print, with different scoring families used for architecture, travel, natural history, workshop material, and other subjects. Piece handling, paper, drawers, placement, and other interactions use physical sound effects designed for repeated puzzle play.
