What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“almweit is playable and already good for many hours of fun. My testers are well past the first hour. But a building game only shows its weak spots once lots of people play it in lots of different ways. Which chain gets stuck, where a village grinds to a halt, what plays differently with two people than with one: I'll find that out faster with you than on my own. For me, Early Access means you get a say while everything can still be shaped.
”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I expect around six to twelve months. It'll take as long as it takes for the game to feel finished, to me and to you.
”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“
My main goal for the full version is reliability. A village should run smoothly for a whole season, even when nobody's watching. An evening with friends should go by without disconnects, and the game should never end up in a spot it can't get out of. On top of that come carefully tuned sounds, lots of polish on the interface and balance, and whatever grows out of your feedback. I'd also like the game to be expandable with your own content.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable, on your own, on your home network or on your own server. There's a big world, rolled fresh every time, with six landscapes, lakes, towns and caves. Add day and night, seasons and weather, well over a hundred buildings, jobs, markets, power, railways and boats. Villagers grow older, start families and have wishes of their own. The game is available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish.

Your worlds carry over when the game updates. Still, expect some rough edges: sometimes the balance is off, sometimes a path, and some things will still change.
”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to raise the price a little for the full version. If you buy during Early Access, you pay less and get everything that comes later at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Through Discord and the Steam forums. I read along there, answer questions and collect what you notice. Every update comes with a list of what changes for you and a little behind-the-scenes look at how it came together. Plenty of changes in the game already come from tester feedback, and that's exactly how it should keep going.”

About This Game

One village for everyone

Nothing in Halmweit belongs to just one player. You share a storehouse and a workforce, and whatever someone builds is there for everybody. One of you chops wood, another looks after the fields, and the third has been sitting by the lake fishing for the past hour. The village keeps growing anyway.

You can play on your own too. Then your village simply moves at your pace.

A world worth wandering

Around your village lie 2048 by 2048 tiles of land. Forests, meadows, desert, frost, mountains and big lakes. Every world is rolled fresh, so you never quite know what's over the next hill. Maybe a town, a little hamlet or an oasis. Maybe an old pyramid in the sand.

There are caves beneath the map. Down there you'll find coal, and every now and then something someone lost a long time ago.

People make the village

You win new villagers over by walking up and talking to them. There's no button for it. Everyone has a mind of their own and things they like, and they'll happily chat. People grow older, fall in love, move in together and have children. In the evening they gather at the inn, and somebody's always playing music.

When they're hungry, they work slower. When it all gets too much, they down tools. Both can be put right again. It never gets worse than that.

From footpath to railway

You start with an axe, a handful of people and half a village. Later on you'll have sawmills, markets, power and tracks with freight trains rolling across the land. Cargo boats carry your goods over the lakes. If you'd rather ride, you can tame a horse.

And every year, winter comes. The stoves need wood or coal, and a village that stocked up in autumn gets through it snug and warm.

What you won't find

No fighting, no monsters and no disasters burning your village down. No time pressure and no end screen. Animals aren't kept to take something from them. The cows and sheep are there because a farm isn't a farm without them. The cat stays if you feed it often enough.

How you play

  • On your own, at your own pace
  • Together on your home network
  • On your own server, for a regular group

Halmweit is still in development, and new things keep arriving.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Halmweit is a one-person project, and I've had a little help from some tools along the way. AI helped with writing and translating the texts and with programming. What goes into the game is my decision. The music was written by hand by a composer. While you play, the game doesn't generate anything with AI.
