Somewhere out in the dark are the pieces of your life: six Soul Shards, each holding a memory you lost. Find them, and maybe you'll remember who you were, and who you left behind.

The Shades you fight drop souls. Spend them on your strength, on more time, on secrets... or let them go at the town well, where nobody will ever know. The game never tells you which is right.

A world bled from the living

A graveyard at the edge of everything. A town where lost souls wait. A road where it always rains and the headlights never stop. A hollow full of things someone refused to give up. A white ward, where a cheerful voice tells you exactly where to go.

They've been standing there a long time. They say they're waiting for someone who was always late... but always came.

Features

• A short, complete story: about 1.5 to 2 hours for a first run, with five endings shaped by time and by what you did with the souls you took.

• Striking 1-bit art: every sprite, room and memory drawn in two colours, in a world lit only by lanterns, headlights and your own glow.

• Light and dark: in the pitch-dark places your glow is all you have, and a lit lantern is the only safe ground.

• Memories told in still frames: each Soul Shard brings back a piece of what happened that night.

• Bosses that are puzzles: a creature that hoards, a trickster who cheats at his own game, and something waiting beneath the well.

• Kindness comes back: the lost souls you help don't forget you.

• A quiet moral weight: no karma meter, no warnings. Just souls, a well, and the choice.

PALE WHISPERS deals with death, grief and loss. You play a ghost who fights shadow creatures with a sword, the combat is stylised and has no blood or gore. Short memory scenes, shown as still images, gradually reveal how the ghost died, including a fatal accident on a rainy road, nothing graphic is shown. The game also touches on regret, letting go, and the people left behind. There is no sexual content, no drug use, and no strong language.
