About This Game

Everything you find is a tool

You start with a hunk of meat. You use it to charm a wolf. The wolf helps you kill the zombie, the zombie drops a lockpick, and the lockpick opens the safe. Inside is a jeweled goblet. You trade the goblet for a lucky shield, and the shield is the only thing between you and the dragon's fire.

That is Rogue Dungeon, a dungeon crawler based on the board game, where managing your loot is the whole game. Every card is a tool, a trade or a lifeline, and a run takes about half an hour from zero to hero. It is hard, and you will die. Veteran Rogues make it out alive. You, you're going to end up in a goblin's belly. Prove us wrong.

Single Run: five levels, one boss

Pick a hero, take their starting kit and skills, and descend, solo or with a party.

Each level is a map of corridors studded with glowing gems, and every gem is a room waiting to be drawn. You choose the route and the cards decide what is behind the door. Red gems mean monsters, yellow traps, white traders, green boons, blue rooms that demand a particular item, and purple a chance at a weapon or a power-up. Take the stairs down to something worse, until you reach the boss: a Red Dragon, a Lich King, a Balrog, Cerberus or a Storm Giant.

  • Loot is everything. There is no inventory limit, and almost any card can be played at any moment: mid-fight, mid-trap, mid-trade. Some monsters are weak to something specific. Garlic for the vampire, a torch for the mummy, a mirror for Medusa, a meaty rib for the wolf.

  • Dice decide, Luck bends. In combat you add your hero's primary stat to a D10 and compare it to the monster. Beat it and you hit. Miss and it hits you. Tie and you both bleed. Spend Luck to reroll a die or shift it by one.

  • Difficulty is dice. On Easy you roll three dice and keep the one you want. Medium rolls two. Hard makes you live with one.

  • Level up whenever you like. XP is a currency. Spend it at any moment on stats, Vitality or Luck, or to buy back a skill you have used.

  • Monsters with tricks. Many monsters, bosses included, have special abilities that trigger off your roll. They summon help, drain your level, heal.

Four dungeons to fall into

Pick your dungeon before you embark. Each one plays differently, with its own rooms and its own rules.

  • The Dungeon. The classic descent into the dark.

  • The Tomb. Cursed treasure, trapped spirits and demons. Take the loot, and the curse that comes with it.

  • The Sewers. Once a marvel of gnomish engineering, all canals, levers, gears and steam pipes, now a flooded labyrinth of traps, disease and ooze. Ride out the floods, fight off afflictions that sap your abilities, and face new bosses, a Kraken and a Rat King among them.

  • The Castle. A court wizard's corruption cursed a king and queen into immortal lords of the night. Choose your way in: fight through the front gate, sneak in with a band of traveling minstrels, or get thrown in the dungeon and escape. A Vampire King, a Mad Mage and an Alpha Lycan wait at the end.

A Rogue's Tale: leave the dungeon

A Rogue's Tale takes your heroes out of a single dungeon and across Ilderia, a land caught between ancient history and total collapse. Every dungeon is here, strung together by a world map that answers back.

  • Every road is a gamble. Cross the map hex by hex, paying Sovereigns to travel and flipping them as you go. Crossed blades mean an event from the land under your feet. Buy a mount and the road gets cheaper.

  • Cities, villages and taverns. Stock up at the Provisioner, learn skills from class trainers, rest in a tavern, hire henchmen.

  • Your name travels ahead of you. Heroic deeds raise your Reputation and buy you discounts. Crimes lower it, and if it falls far enough, bounty hunters come looking.

  • Build your legend. Every hero begins as a rookie with an Origin story of their own, a class talent, and a reward only they can carry.

  • Nine endings. Every questline builds to its own victory, and quests and events play out differently each time. Fail one path and another opens. Reach an ending and your Tale is won, but the world remembers: win the same ending again and it fights back harder.

  • A dozen dungeons. Classic dungeons, tombs, sewers and castles, from one-floor crawls to three-floor keeps. Every dungeon you clear raises the Dungeon Level, and the world grows more dangerous with it.

  • Death is not the end. When your party falls, start again with new heroes and keep your Prestige, the campaign's own XP. Your old gear waits where it dropped.

  • Up to four heroes. Travel together or split up and meet again, and trade cards on the trail.

  • Read your story. The game writes a Chronicle of your Tale as you play it.

Sixteen heroes, all in the game

Every hero has their own primary stat, skills and starting kit, and comes in two looks. Crusader, Rogue, Sorcerer, Monk, Aristocrat, Dwarf Miner and Elf Ranger. Barbarian, Gnome Machinist and Bard. From the Sewers, a bugbear Cleric, a kenku Alchemist and a fey Druid. From the Castle, the Trickster, the Vampire Hunter and the Warlord.

Also included

  • The complete rulebook, built into the game

Pick a hero, grab the hunk of meat, and prove us wrong.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Rogue Dungeon 2 is a dark fantasy game with frequent fantasy violence. Heroes fight monsters, undead and demons in turn-based card and dice combat, and heroes can die. Violence is shown through illustrated cards and short animations, without graphic gore. The story and card text touch on darker themes: torture chambers, cults and ritual sacrifice, plague, disease and poison, curses, and a hero's past as a slave gladiator. Taverns serve ale and wine, and some items and events involve drinking. There is no sexualized nudity, mainly of monsters.
