What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I'm a single person. This game takes time to make, even with AI (Artificial Intelligence), and it takes a long time to finish. I also want to add many more features before I feel ready to call this released. I also really want to see what people think and want to suggest for this game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently expect Artificial Railways to remain in Early Access for approximately 12–24 months after its Early Access launch. This estimate may change as development progresses and I respond to player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I not only want a railway network. I eventually want to introduce different ways to play, not limited to NPCs, but also for players to do. Dispatching, Signalling, guarding, etc.
I also want to introduce other systems like maintenance on trains, tracks, stations, etc in the future. One of the big things I also want to do is potentially be able to add NPC companies and Multiplayer.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Artificial Railways currently includes single-player railway building and passenger operations on procedurally generated maps. Players can lay tracks, build stations and depots, purchase trains, create routes and timetables, and transport passengers between towns.

Implemented systems include signalling, passenger demand and ticket revenue, company finances, research upgrades, depot servicing, compatible-train coupling and splitting, and storage sidings. Players can also accept transport bookings such as charters, worker shuttles and trial services.

The game includes a day/night cycle, weather, station announcements, configurable controls and accessibility settings, plus manual saves and autosaves.

This is an alpha version under active development. Players should expect bugs, unfinished presentation and changes to balance.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“This game will stay free forever. ”

About This Game

Build your own railway and bring towns closer together. Lay tracks across scenic, procedurally generated landscapes, build stations, and turn your first passenger service into a growing railway network.

Build connections

Plan your railway around hills, rivers, and towns. Place stations, connect them with track, and use signals to manage movement across your network. Expand your infrastructure as your railway grows.

Run your railway

Buy trains, assign routes, and plan timetables. Keep passengers moving between stations while managing shared tracks, station stops, and depot visits. Maintain your fleet and combine compatible train units to increase capacity.

Grow your company

Earn revenue by transporting passengers and keep an eye on operating costs. Invest in research to improve your railway, take on public-service contracts, or enable sandbox options for greater freedom to build.

Watch your world in motion

Follow your trains through the landscape, watch passengers board at stations, and experience changing weather and the transition from day to night. Connected towns can grow alongside your railway.

An evolving project

The game is still in active development. Expect bugs, rough edges, and changes to systems and balance. Player feedback will help shape improvements as development continues.

Open about AI

I want to be transparent about how this game is made. AI tools are used extensively throughout development, including programming, developing gameplay systems, testing, and fixing bugs. I guide the creative direction and make the final decisions about what goes into the game.

AI is a substantial part of the development process, and I don’t want to hide that. I take responsibility for the game’s quality and for improving the experience through player feedback.

I'm also doing this solo. And i've always been curious what I could do with AI. Due to the usage of AI this game will be free forever. Potential future paid dlc's will be made be made with bought assets + my own touch on it and all earnings will go back into the game's development. Also future assets that is potentially "Generated with AI" Will eventually be replaced as well with assets bought in the future.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Artifical Railways was developed with extensive AI assistance, including programming and the creation of custom train models, procedural scenery, interface elements, and procedural sound effects. The game also incorporates third-party models, music, sound recordings, and fonts. Station announcements use AI-generated speech synthesized locally during gameplay from announcement templates and in-game railway information. This speech generation does not connect to an external AI service.
