What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Veilborn is a party game, and it only gets good with players in it. The expeditions, the rival parties, the loot and the economy between runs all need real parties testing them. Early Access lets us tune the balance, the pacing and the rewards around how people actually play, and fix what breaks, while the game keeps growing zone by zone.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Veilborn to stay in Early Access for about 12 to 18 months, depending on what players tell us and how long it takes to get each new zone right.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to raise the level cap and add more zones beyond the Grass Lands and the Forgotten Crypt, each with its own monsters, bosses, named wanderers, events and gear. We also plan to add more abilities, talents and item sets for every class, more trades and recipes, more contracts and stories from the Veilhold's patrons, and more achievements and titles. Alongside that we intend to keep balancing classes, loot and PvP, improve performance, and polish the art, sound and interface. Localization into other languages is something we would like to add later on.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Veilborn is fully playable from level 1 to 20. It has two zones split into four level bands: the Rat Warrens and the Mossgrin Hollows in the Grass Lands, and the Ossuary Halls and Drowned Sanctum in the Forgotten Crypt, each with its own monsters, lair bosses and an arena boss. There are five classes, each with ten abilities, four talent trees and twelve masteries to train. Expeditions run for thirty minutes, and up to three parties share each one; AI companions fill out a party that is short of players. Between runs you get loot with prefixes, suffixes, tiers and class sets, the Veilwright's currency crafting, ten gathering and crafting trades, the Contract Board, player trading, the Exchange, and a Journal with a bestiary, codex, achievements and titles.

It is still early. Expect bugs, balance changes, rough edges in the art and interface, and changes to how things work as we learn from players. The game is English only and requires an internet connection.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Veilborn is free to play during Early Access, and we plan to keep it free to play when it leaves Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read the Steam discussions and reviews, and we will post patch notes with every update so players can see what changed and why. We also plan to run polls and playtests on new zones and classes before they go live. Reports of bugs, balance problems and anything that feels bad to play shape what we work on next.”

About This Game

Every expedition is a gamble

Veilborn is a dark fantasy action RPG built around thirty-minute expeditions. Your party of five steps through the gate into a world laid out fresh each run, fights its way through camps, lairs and a boss's arena, and races for an escape portal before time runs out. Everything you carry out is yours. Fall for good, and your bag stays where you dropped.

You are not alone out there. Up to three parties share every expedition, all after the same loot, and every one of them can reach you.

Features

  • Five classes, built your way — Knight, Ranger, Mage, Rogue and Druid, each with ten abilities, four talent trees of their own and 344 talents between them.
  • Twelve weapon and armour masteries — train swords, bows, staves, shields and more by fighting with them, and pick a perk at every tier.
  • Co-op, PvP and PvE in one run — play with friends or find players in the Veilhold. Short a player? AI companions fill your party, and they fight, heal, dodge and bring you back when you're down.
  • Loot worth the risk — gear rolls prefixes, suffixes and tiers, and class sets drop only from the bosses that guard them.
  • The Veilwright's table — rework your gear with rare currencies: reroll it, raise it, seal a stat, or gamble it on Riftglass.
  • Ten trades — mine, chop, fish, forage and dig out in the world, then smith, tan, brew, cook and tailor at the bench back home.
  • A world that fights back — monsters hunt in packs, call for help and warn before they strike. Named wanderers each have one trick to beat, Veil rifts tear open, and the day turns to night mid-run.
  • Two zones, levels 1 to 20 — the Grass Lands' Rat Warrens and Mossgrin Hollows, then down into the Forgotten Crypt's Ossuary Halls and Drowned Sanctum, where your lantern is all that keeps the dark away.

Between runs

Back in the Veilhold, take contracts from three patrons, trade with other heroes, buy and sell on the Exchange, and fill your Journal's bestiary, codex, 142 achievements and titles.
