What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Voluntary Service is fully playable and ready, but there’s still so much we want to add to make the experience feel completely full. Early Access gives us the space to keep expanding the game alongside the community—fixing bugs, adding weird new mechanics, and shaping the game into its absolute best version together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're aiming for around 12 months. That said, we aren't rushing out of Early Access just to tick a box. We'll stay in EA until the game feels feature complete, stable, and consistently surprising every time you step through a door.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Think of 1.0 as the current game, but bigger, wilder and way more dangerous. We plan to more absurd missions, new derelict ship layouts, weird hazards, more monsters, more gear, tools and tons of bug-performance fixes.
”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable right now from start to finish, supporting up to 4-player online coop as well as solo runs. You can jump straight into the full loop: board abandoned starships, attempt ridiculous mission objectives under low oxygen, and spend your hard earned credits on gear upgrades before your next drop.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the price will increase with the official 1.0 full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Inmate feedback is critically important to us. We’ll be closely monitoring the Steam Community hub and social channels to review all of your suggestions and survival advice.”

About This Game

REDUCE YOUR SENTENCE (OR DIE TRYING)

Congratulations, inmate! You’ve been selected for our High Risk Rehabilitation Program. Your job is simple: drop into abandoned starships, complete life threatening tasks, and buy back your freedom.

SERVICE DESCRIPTION (AND WHY YOU’LL PROBABLY DIE)

Voluntary Service is a 1-4 player online co-op sci-fi survival horror game featuring procedurally generated derelict starships. Players must utilize 3D positional proximity voice chat to coordinate strategy as they navigate dark corridors, manage limited oxygen supplies, and bypass deadly environmental hazards. Complete missions, earn credits, and upgrade your gear to increase your odds on higher-risk contracts.

NO WEAPONS. NO OXYGEN. NO HEROES.

You’re an expendable convict. We’d issue you weapons, but giving guns to a crew of prisoners is just asking for a mutiny. Since combat is strictly off the table, survival requires stealth, speed, and knowing when to abandon your friends. To make matters worse, these derelicts have zero oxygen. Your cheap suit tank is your only lifeline, turning every loot run into a frantic race against suffocation. Manage your time wisely, and try not to let your greed blind you. You can’t spend that extra scrap if you forget to breathe.

NOT YOUR AVERAGE CLEANUP JOB

Scavenging trash? Please. We need you to do the real dirty work:

Feed the monkey with bananas.

Score a basket.

Extract the flag from Apollo 11.

...and more.
