About This Game

Tarpit is an atmospheric psychological indie horror game that was inspired by traditional TAR making ways in Finland. The game takes you through a set of three islands where you need to rescue your friend from supernatural forces and escape together.

The Story

The story takes you, the player, to a set of three islands where you will discover old and unnatural things and beings. You and your friend were supposed to go investigate an abandoned church after school, but when you arrive your friend is nowhere to be seen. The mystery of what happened to your friend is why you need to confront and interact with these beings. To find out what happened to your friend you need to do tasks and learn how to make pine TAR with traditional methods.

Break The Curse

As you walk through and discover on your lonely and short journey how to survive the islands and break the curse over them you have to remember: Watch out for the things that live on these islands, since they most likely will not be happy about your presence. Anything can live in these woods. The question is: Can you see them and outrun them?

The Horror

The game involves jump scares and loud sounds. The atmosphere of the game is designed to make the player feel insecure about their surroundings, using psychological horror elements and thematic music and sound.
