RED SKIES AT DAWN is a single-player, first-person coastal sailing adventure about learning your boat and the waters around you.

Arrive on an unfamiliar coast with a small sloop. Take on paid voyages, discover hidden anchorages and learn the passages between islands. Improve your boat as your confidence grows, then venture beyond familiar waters.

Find your rhythm on sunlit seas. Learn to read the changing sky. Discover the relief of reaching sheltered water after a difficult passage.

The planned coastal world brings together working harbours, remote islands, exposed headlands and sheltered coves.

Use your chart, compass and binoculars to identify landmarks and investigate unfamiliar passages. A distinctive rock can become a reliable bearing. A hidden anchorage can become your refuge when the weather turns.

Exploration centres on sailing and discovering the coastline, with harbour services accessed from your boat or the dock.

Wind, waves, clouds, rain, lightning and sound bring the changing weather into the cockpit. Watch the water ahead, listen to the rigging and feel the deck pitch beneath you as the sea puts your handling to the test.

Planned weather reports and a radar display will help you track approaching conditions, choose a departure window and weigh your options once underway.

Take the exposed shortcut or the sheltered passage. Reduce sail, divert to an anchorage, turn back or wait safely in harbour.

Reading a storm well enough to avoid it is good seamanship too.
