What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Sandscape is a simulation toy, and the only way to find out which reactions delight people, which ones frustrate them, and what they build is to put it in front of players. The core is complete and fun today. Early Access lets us grow the chemistry, the creatures and the worlds around what the community actually does with them.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Sandscape to be in Early Access for around 6–12 months, depending on feedback. We will post regular updates so you can see what is changing.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will add more to discover and more to play in. Planned areas include new biomes and world presets, more materials and reactions, deeper creature behaviour, and more Codex discoveries. Exact features will be shaped by player feedback, so this list will change. Better VR support with more features. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Sandscape is fully playable. It includes three starting worlds in four sizes, 130+ materials and reaction states, 45 Codex discoveries with 52 achievements, terrain and weather tools, creatures, a burrowing sandworm, The Lab rule editor, photo and video capture, and a procedural soundtrack. It currently supports Windows with keyboard and mouse, in English, and requires a dedicated graphics card.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may increase as content is added toward the full release. Buying during Early Access gets you every update at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We read every review, Steam discussion post and bug report. Early players will help decide which materials, reactions and creatures come next, and we will share progress through regular Steam news updates.”

About This Game

A little world. See what happens.

Sandscape is a living 3D sandbox inspired by classic falling-sand games. Shape a tiny floating world, pour in materials, and watch them flow, burn, grow and react.

Sand piles up. Water pools behind the banks you build. Fire climbs through dry grass and leaves glowing embers behind. Every grain, drop and flame is part of the simulation—and one small experiment can change the whole landscape.

Pick up a material and pour it in. Then see what the world does with it.

Experiment

Materials don't just sit side by side. They react.

  • Lava meets water and flashes into obsidian.

  • Iron left in water slowly rusts through and crumbles.

  • A forest fire burns down to embers, then ash, then fertile soil that greens over again.

  • Thermite melts straight through metal. Cement cures. Fireworks bloom.

There are 150+ materials and reaction states to explore, from salt and clay to methane, acid and molten glass.

Play god, gently or not

  • Raise mountains, carve rivers and level plains with terrain tools.

  • Call down rain, snow, meteors, explosions and lightning.

  • Summon a burrowing sandworm and watch it tunnel, breach and dive.

  • Place trees and working Conway's Game of Life patterns with the Shape tool.

  • Open The Lab to rewrite the rules live. Make water heavier, make air flammable, or heat the whole world until metal melts.

Discover

Experiment your way through 45 discoveries, from your first fire to molten metal and the slow transformations of deep time.

Record your findings in the Discovery Codex, uncover hidden reactions, and watch the ancient Monolith at the centre of your world awaken as your collection of discoveries grows.

A world that lives on its own

  • Storms gather, rain erodes hillsides, and lightning sparks wildfires.

  • Grass spreads, forests reseed, and mushrooms creep through damp ground.

  • Herds of little creatures graze, drink, flock, raise young and learn what is safe to eat.

  • Day turns to night beneath a moving sun, moon and starry sky.

Make it yours

  • Three starting worlds: a living Island, a blank Flat Sandbox, and a calm Zen Garden of sand.

  • Four world sizes, from Cozy to Grand.

  • Photo mode, GIF and video capture, plus automatic camera moves that orbit, glide past or pull away from your creations.

No pressure

No timers and no score to chase. Build a castle and flood it, grow a forest and burn it, or leave the world running and see what has changed when you come back.

Basic VR Support

The current build has basic VR support - Additional VR features are planned for later updates.
