About This Game

Are you tired of all the conflict in video games? Want to play something that isn't about beating all the bad guys? Utopia '97 has the answer.

On the opposite side of the galaxy hides a planet where only positivity exists. There are no wars, no dissatisfaction, no negativity, no disagreements, and no ambition. All of the happy little friends on this planet always play nice and get along. Every day is spent in pure euphoria. Along with the cuddly animals inhabiting the planet, there is also a magical boy named Chin. He has the ability to blow kisses that send the recipient to a carnival for the day, where all the rides and candy are free. Utopia '97 is the tale of this perfect world where everything always works out the way you would hope.

The game is a static screen twin-stick shooter inspired by games like Robotron and Smash T.V. Of course, there are no enemies in Utopia '97. Instead, the goal is to blow kisses and send as many friends to the carnival as possible. Each substage has a time limit and quota of friends, as long as you meet the quota within the time limit you can advance to the next stage. At the end of each world awaits a reeeeaaaally big friend (NOT a boss).

The twist to gameplay lies in the rainbow that follows Chin wherever he goes. You can rotate the rainbow around Chin and use it to block and absorb green smiley faces, which then make his magic abilities even stronger. But the rainbow can't block purple sad faces. What's that you say? The smiley faces and sad faces are actually bullets? That's impossible, there are no bullets in this perfect world.

For those who, for some crazy reason, want to challenge themselves, Utopia '97 contains 4 difficulty settings, collectible cards with desserts, unlockable modes, and maybe even some secret characters. But why would you play on anything other than the easiest setting?

And just to be clear: There is no big reveal to the story in which we discover that something sinister is brewing beneath the happy lives everyone leads on the surface. No twist, no surprises, just unadulterated positivity up until the end.
