From campfire to cannon

It starts small: a town center, four workers and a forest full of wood. Before long there are farms around the mill, walls around the town and an army at the gate. Advance through seven ages, from the Stone Age to the Industrial Age, and watch your spearmen grow into halberdiers and your archers into riflemen. Whoever rushes ahead gets stronger soldiers; whoever waits builds the stronger economy. You choose.

Six peoples, six ways to play

Once you reach the Bronze Age, you pick your civilization. The Northern peoples storm in with berserkers, the Steppe rides circles around you with horse archers, the Mediterranean holds the line with hoplites. Each people has its own strengths, its own unique unit and a power you can call on once per match: fresh troops at the perfect moment, a new gold vein, or a burst of hard work from every villager.

Every map a new land

Plains, highlands, woodland, lakes or continents: every match is played on a fresh map. Forests are walls until you cut a way through, and the richest mines are never next door. Scout early, claim what you can hold, and defend it.

Opponents with character

The computer doesn't just throw armies at you. One rushes you before your walls are up, another quietly builds an economy and returns with twice your numbers, a third hides behind stone and towers. From Beginner to Merciless there is always an opponent at your level, and on the lower settings the game gives you a friendly nudge when your workers are idle.

Together or against each other

Play with up to eight players online or on your own network, humans and computer players mixed. Team up against the computer, fight it out in teams, or play ranked matches for a spot on the leaderboard. Every match is saved, so you can watch it back afterwards and see where it was won.

New to strategy games? A hands-on tutorial teaches you everything in a real match, one step at a time, in five short chapters. After that, six challenges put your skills to the test for bronze, silver and gold: hold off a rush, break through a wall, or build an economy against the clock.

Aetas is designed, directed and built by a single developer. Generative AI was used as a development assistant: it helped write code and tools, the in-game texts and their English/Dutch localization, and the store page texts, all under the developer's direction and review. No AI image generation was used: all sprites and tiles are hand-drawn Liberated Pixel Cup art by human artists (credited in the game folder), or assembled programmatically from that art. The trailer music was produced by a synthesis script. The game does not generate any content with AI during gameplay and does not connect to any AI service.
