What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“The Undercity is about managing people as well as resources. Its production chains, social pressures, regional machinery and difficult decisions need feedback from different play styles. Early Access will help us refine the balance, make consequences easier to understand and improve performance as colonies grow.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect approximately 6–12 months of Early Access after launch. This estimate may change based on player feedback and development progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to focus on stronger colony management decisions, more varied events, clearer interfaces and better performance and stability. We would also like to deepen longer-term progression beyond the existing civilization milestones. The scope and priorities may change based on testing and player feedback.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build contains the core single-player colony management loop: excavation, room construction and upgrades, production, research, storage, shifts and population management. It includes social pressures, injuries and aging, breakdowns and earthquakes, story cinematics, the Thermal Rift, Fungal Sea and Resonant Archive, and multi-stage Grand Projects and Civilization Projects. English and Turkish interface text and subtitles are available. Balance, interface clarity and performance are still being refined; bugs and rough edges remain, and longer-term progression beyond the current milestones is still limited.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as content and features are added during Early Access and for the full release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We plan to use Steam Discussions for bug reports, suggestions and feedback on balance, clarity and colony performance. Reports about difficult-to-understand decisions and growing colonies will help us set priorities. We also plan to share development updates and patch notes on Steam.”

About This Game

A home beneath a dying world. A future shaped by your decisions.

The Undercity: Last Light is a single-player colony simulation in 2D pixel art. Carve a settlement into the rock, keep its production lines running, and lead the people who depend on them. Expanding is only part of the challenge: your colony must be able to live with the choices that make it grow.

Carve out a colony that works

Excavate galleries, connect floors and build farms, kitchens, workshops and homes. Workers carry materials between rooms and storage. Plan your layout, assign specialists and choose whether to expand or invest in stronger upgrades. A new workshop is only useful if people and supplies can reach it.

Your people have limits

Long shifts can help you through a shortage, but exhaustion and injuries take workers away from production. Families need homes; the next generation needs training. Decide how much to invest in rest, care and education while keeping the colony supplied.

Choose what you can afford to sacrifice

Respond to requests, take on trade commitments and weigh immediate supplies against effects that last for colony days. Put scarce materials into research, repairs or expansion. Your decisions, workforce and room specializations shape how your colony develops along its story.

Keep the lights on when the ground shakes

Prepare for breakdowns and earthquakes. Fund maintenance, strengthen safety and care for the injured. When damage spreads through your colony, choose what to restore first—and what must wait.

Build toward a future beyond survival

Discover the Thermal Rift, Fungal Sea and Resonant Archive, each with its own machinery, hazards and story. Bring their systems online, undertake Grand Projects and choose a Civilization Project. Progress from a fragile refuge to a lasting settlement, then continue managing the colony you built.

What will your people endure to reach the light?

Generative AI tools were used during development to create pixel-art assets, character animations, cinematic illustrations and marketing artwork, and to assist with narrative text and English/Turkish localization. All content is prepared before release. The game does not generate AI content or connect to AI services during gameplay.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

The game includes survival themes such as shortages, illness, injury, disasters and death. Colony residents may die due to accidents, earthquakes, unmet needs or old age. These events are conveyed through stylized pixel graphics and text notifications, without graphic gore or sexual content.
