About This Game

Letters to Judy is a smoky, film noir inspired pathology simulator that takes place in a post-war New York City. For work, you, the player, are tasked with undertaking post-mortem examinations while you wait for your wife to relocate with you.

Separation has gotten the better of you. Whilst you wait for your wife to join you in the city, you must write to her. Every day brings you closer to your reunion. In the meantime however, you have a job to do.

When you begin a case, you must investigate the body using the instruments at your disposal:

  • Pick up the magnifying glass and scour surface level clues

  • Put scalpel to skin, and make precise dissections

  • Merge clues together with the Thought mechanic

  • Follow correct procedure and suture the incisions

  • Print your findings onto the case report and send it off

Was the death natural or was it an accident? Are there any signs of foul play? No matter the verdict, it is crucial that you discover the manner of death. Your decisions matter. Your reputation depends on it, and so does the outcome of the story.

Throughout your work days, you will discover many people swinging by your office for a chat. These conversations are the narrative centre of the game, and how you talk can affect the way things go.

Officer James Battle is the young soldier-turned cop who will provide you with information from the police. It is Battle’s responsibility to keep you in check and ensure that your reports are accurate.

Luca “Lucky Lou” is your liaison with the Moretti family. This cynical mafioso has only his family’s interests in mind. Failing to meet his demands to turn a blind eye to some cases will lead to you falling out of favour with the wrong people.

Ms Ruth Collins is the pragmatic journalist who will doggedly follow yours and the NYPD’s every step to provide the truth in her daily papers.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

As a noir-inspired puzzle game centred around pathology, this game features stylized, 2D hand-drawn artwork focused on forensic body examinations accompanied by textual descriptions.

Medical Nudity and Forensic Visuals: Players examine deceased male and female victims on the autopsy table to look for clues. The bodies are depicted as anatomically natural but non-explicit (no genitalia are shown, and details like nipples are faint or minimized). This nudity is strictly medical, clinical, and non-sexual.

Violence and Investigation: While players do not see or explore full crime scenes, the 2D hand-drawn art includes close-up depictions of injuries and medical examinations on the bodies. The gameplay focuses entirely on analytical puzzle-solving through these body visuals and written case descriptions.

Sensitive Narrative Themes: In keeping with the dark, gritty nature of the noir genre, the narrative investigations explore heavy adult themes through text. This includes storylines dealing with homicide, substance use, and cases involving sexual assault/rape. These elements serve as narrative backdrop and plot points for the forensic puzzles.

What is NOT in the game: The game does not visually depict explicit sexual acts, graphic nudity, or the act of sexual violence itself.
