What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“MUSTER’s core loop is already playable: read the excavation board, dig out a warband, develop it through a run, and deploy it into automatic battles.

Early Access will help us improve the space between those systems: clue clarity, shovel and lantern pressure, combat pacing, difficulty, and the balance between roles, equipment, and talents. Players approach deduction games and auto-battlers in very different ways, and we want that experience to influence our priorities.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately 6–12 months. This is an estimate rather than a fixed release date. The timing may change as new systems are tested and community feedback influences their scope.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our goal for version 1.0 is a broader, clearer, and better-balanced version of the game already available.

Current development directions include additional run variety and polish, an optional daily challenge mode, and a persistent camp layer that creates goals and player expression between runs. We want the camp to complement the deduction game without turning it into a permanent-stat grind.

We also expect to continue improving onboarding, interface clarity, accessibility, combat pacing, and balance. The exact form and priority of these additions may change as we test them with players.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build supports complete six-floor runs across the earthen and unlockable frozen barrows, plus Endless play.

It includes twenty recruitable characters, six difficulty ranks, class quests and talent trees, relics, dozens of weapons and charms, a pedlar and forge, bestiary, records, and leaderboards. Before each battle, position your warband freely on your half of the hex battlefield, then watch the fight play out automatically in real time.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the same base price throughout Early Access and for version 1.0. If that plan changes, we will announce it in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Steam Discussions will be our primary public feedback channel. We plan to maintain clear spaces for bug reports, general feedback, and known issues, alongside patch notes explaining what changes and why.

We will also ask focused questions about clue clarity, difficulty, combat pacing, build variety, the daily challenge mode, and what the persistent camp should contribute between runs. Larger changes may be tested through optional branches before reaching the main build.”

About This Game

BUILD THE WARBAND. SET THE FORMATION. WATCH IT FIGHT.

MUSTER is a roguelite autobattler where your preparation does the fighting.

Assemble a warband of up to five diggers from twenty different characters, arm them, and place them on a large hex battlefield. Then press START. Your diggers move, choose targets, attack, and heal on their own—your formation, reach, equipment, talents, and class abilities decide the outcome.

YOUR PLAN FIGHTS FOR YOU

Before each battle, position your entire warband freely on your half of the hex battlefield. Put a Tank on the front, protect a Healer, let an Archer work from range, or send a Rogue after an exposed target.

Once combat begins, the plan is out of your hands. Watch the fight unfold automatically in real time and find out whether your lineup holds.

Afterward, a detailed battle report shows who dealt damage, who healed, who took the punishment, and which attacks and effects made the difference. Use what you learn to prepare for the fights ahead.

BUILD THE RIGHT WARBAND

Recruit new diggers as you descend and shape a party around how you want it to fight. Twenty different characters offer different ranges, priorities, abilities, and places in the formation.

Every role has its own class quest and three talent trees. Equip weapons and charms, move gear freely between diggers, improve equipment at forges, and combine it with relics that affect the entire expedition.

Fallen enemies award coin and may drop gear in four rarities. One new recruit or one well-placed item can change how the whole warband fights.

EVERY DIG SHAPES THE NEXT FIGHT

Between battles, return to a numbered excavation grid and choose what to unearth. Read the clues, spend limited shovels and lanterns, and search for the recruits, equipment, and route your expedition needs.

The numbers can tell you that something is buried nearby—but monsters and prizes share the same clues. A careful dig can uncover exactly what your build needs. A careless one can wake an entire connected pocket of enemies.

Boards are procedurally generated and checked by a solver, but knowing that something is buried does not reveal whether it is an opportunity or a threat.

SURVIVE THE DESCENT

Take on six-floor runs in the earthen barrow and the unlockable frozen barrow, each with different enemies and bosses.

Extract surviving diggers to preserve their talent builds—or risk them deeper below in Endless.
