About This Game

GOLF’S FUTURE, ON PAPER

Par Under Review is a turn-based dice-golf roguelike set in the 1920s and 1930s during golf’s Golden Age, when hickory shafts are giving way to steel, mashies and niblicks to numbered irons and specialist wedges, and the modern bag is taking shape.

You test courses on hex-grid blueprints, using cards and dice to simulate a golfer’s performance. It’s a game about visible risks, considered decisions, and the peculiar satisfaction of making a difficult line add up.

READ THE COURSE. WEIGH THE ODDS

Golf has a strategic craft shared by golfers and caddies: understanding the course, accounting for the likely miss, and planning the shot that follows. Par Under Review puts that craft in your hands.

Fairway rewards good positioning. Sand steals distance. Trees block your line. Water punishes optimism. Compare possible landings and their probabilities, choose your approach, and decide how much risk a better score is worth.

There is no swing meter and no test of reflexes. A good shot begins long before the ball moves.

BUILD TOMORROW’S BAG

Draft a set of clubs that work together. Cover different distances, terrain and dice results—or commit to a narrower specialty.

A specialist can turn a dreadful lie into an opportunity, but every tool has its limitations. The challenge is finding a useful combination and learning how to play around its gaps. The same hole becomes a different puzzle with a different bag.

In roguelike mode, keep pace with par to keep the run going.

THE STRATEGY BEHIND GREAT COURSES

Course distances and club ranges are grounded in real golf. Position, hazards and the cost of each stroke matter together. Taking the longer route can save a shot. Gaining distance can leave you with a worse approach. Understanding where you can afford to miss is part of playing well.

Planned curated packs will explore holes inspired by legendary courses, adapting their layouts into playable blueprints. Discover how their landing areas, carefully placed hazards and routes to the green create difficult choices. The challenge that makes a great hole memorable becomes a puzzle you can take your time with.

CAMPAIGN, RUNS, AND DAILY ROUNDS

Play a campaign of 27 curated holes, experiment with different builds in procedural roguelike runs, or take on a shared daily round of nine holes.

The daily gives everyone the same courses and dice. The difference is in the decisions.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some marketing artwork for the store page (the capsule's sky, city backdrop, rain and lettering layers) was produced with generative image tools (OpenAI image generation, Google Gemini) and then composited and edited by hand. A few placeholder textures currently in the build (the city seen through the office window and its signs, and the sample sheets in the customization menu) were AI-generated and are scheduled to be replaced with licensed or hand-made art before release. AI coding and writing assistants were used during development for parts of the source code, documentation and drafts of store text; all game rules, design decisions and final art direction are the developer's own. The game does not generate content with AI at runtime.
