About This Game

EVERY BLOW IS A WORD. LEARN TO READ IT.

Babel Destiny is a hardcore isometric soulslike. God did not destroy the Tower of Babel: He sealed it with the confusion of tongues. You are the envoy sent to climb it, with a rod, a bell, and not one word of its language.

READ THE BLOW

Every enemy announces its attack with a word. Red: nothing stops it, roll. The Tower's statues teach you its letters, and the same blow starts to come in white: answer it with a parry, right as it lands. Read four in a row and the fourth one bursts.

BREAK THEM, THEN RING THE KNELL

Guard is a bar. Every parry notches it. Break it and they kneel, and a kneeling foe has one answer left: leap, and a bell falls from the sky. Not even the keeper is spared.

SPEAK IT BACK

Your powers are words: The Break, Wind Step, Winnow and Heaven's Call. Each one hits some foes where they are weak, and some it cannot touch. Every rank changes the word you see, not just its number.

CLIMB THE TOWER

Leap between floating islands, cross the bridges the ink writes for you, ride the floors that carry you over the sea and the lift that turns into a shortcut, and watch the altimeter count every metre you win. Some halls close behind you: they open when the last foe falls. Four strata, four keepers, forty floors. ...or not.

HARD, AND FAIR

Even one foe, one on one, will test you. But every blow tells you what it is before it lands. The difficulty is learning to read it. The Tower is climbed one stratum at a time, each a run of its own; fall, and part of your favor waits where you fell, until you walk back for it.

The first stratum, the Scriptorium: its chambers, its four words of power, and its keeper. At least two hours, if you read well. And after it, something the Tower has not shown anyone.
