About This Demo

This demo is a beta

What you are playing is a work in progress. The tracks, the missions, the rivals and the feel will change from here, and most of what changes will come from what you tell me.

If something kills you and it felt unfair, if a level bores you, if anything reads wrong: press SPACE at any moment to open the bug camera, click the spot to drop a marker, press SPACE again to capture, write a line and SAVE. The report carries the screenshot and everything needed to reproduce it, and as of this build it reaches me directly. Use it for any critical feedback, not just crashes.

What's new — 1.89.0 (build 138), 12–13 Sep

  • Ring Circuit Vector — the pink X-braces at the start gantry no longer cross the road you launch through.
  • Vantablack Loop — full speed again with three rivals (it had dropped to about 18 fps).
  • QUICK MATCH finds a host. CREATE waits thirty seconds and tells you why if Steam does not answer. TEST LAN HERE launches a second copy on this PC over real LAN.
  • Controller: A confirms, B cancels, pad glyphs on every prompt, recommended configuration published.
  • The Warden: a hazard bar can no longer sweep through a jump pyramid.
  • SPACE → SAVE now delivers the report. It used to stop at your disk when the intake was down; that path is live again.

The wall you leave behind is the arena.

Synapse Grid is a light-cycle combat racer built on one idea: the trail your bike paints does not fade. It stays on the grid as cover, as a surface you can ride, as a trap you can close on somebody, and as the single thing most likely to kill you. Green trail is terrain. Amber trail is death. You can cut straight through a wall to open a route nobody expected, or seal a corridor and watch a rival run out of grid. Turning is a hard 90 degrees on a cooldown, and your only speed comes from drafting close behind another rider, so the fastest line is always the most dangerous one.

What is in the demo

  • The full tutorial, plus the free first campaign cup and extra showcase missions from later in the campaign — 8 playable missions in all, counted the same way the demo's own front screen counts them.
  • Arena against four AI riders on one grid, using the same self-play trained opponents as the full game, across four difficulty tiers.
  • Online play over Steam. QUICK MATCH, invite friends through the overlay, or TEST LAN HERE / direct connect on a LAN. Empty seats fill with AI, so you can start alone.
  • Local split-screen for 2, 3 or 4 players on one PC. Keyboard, gamepads, or both at once.
  • The full soundtrack, exactly as it plays in the finished game.
  • Native on Windows and Linux / SteamOS. The same content on both, with Steam Cloud carrying your progress into the full game.

What is not

The other missions, the map editor's share codes, the garage's earned cosmetics, and everything on the Early Access roadmap. The demo is the loop. The full game is the world built around it.

Built to be honest

Synapse Grid is a one-time purchase ($7.99). No ads, no in-app purchases, no subscription, and nothing anywhere in the game selling an advantage. Every cosmetic is earned by playing. Steam Next Fest 19–26 Oct. Full game Early Access 28 Oct 2026. The discussion boards are open too, and I read all of it.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some of the art, music, voice-over and cinematic clips in Synapse Grid were produced with generative AI tools during development, then edited, curated and directed for release. Nothing is generated while you play.

The tools used, and what each produced:

Google Gemini - concept art and texture reference
ACE-Step - original music tracks
MiniMax-Music3 - original music tiles
IndexTTS - cast voice-over
MiniMax H3 (via ComfyUI) - tutorial and transmission video clips

All of this content was generated for this project. No third party's personal media, voice or likeness is used. The same list is shown in the game's own credits screen.

Separately, the opponent riders use a neural network trained by self-play. That system decides how a bike steers; it does not generate any art, audio or text that you see or hear.
