What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to create a game that lives up to our imagination and vision that we have for it. As we're a small indie team that started by crafting our very own free and open source game engine, customized tools for development, and a sandbox full of possibilities, it naturally takes a bit of time to create an enjoyable game with handmade content and a rich story.

Early Access is a way for us to receive valuable feedback along the way as we develop our game in its various stages. Early Access is therefore our planetary canvas to add story and depth to the game.

And while we're on that path, we make most of our tools freely available to the public.

Also, currently we have quite high hardware demands in terms of GPU performance and memory. We want to use Early Access to test our enhancements, some of which are already in our pipeline, with a broader range of players and their hardware.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We don't know exactly yet. Currently, we're adding more tutorials and smaller stories that make use of our in-game tools and mechanics. We're also refining and improving those tools, as well as the current game mechanics, all while writing and gradually implementing the larger story into the game.

At our current pace, we expect the game to remain in Early Access for roughly another eight months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The release version will feature a full story and gameplay with smaller stories that center around it. It will also have some optional action elements, which make restoring the planet to its full potential more challenging. It will most likely also have multiple planets and a co-op mode. We're currently testing the co-op mode in an internal alpha version.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current version features a sandbox mode where you can terraform and (re)shape the planet's surface, add water, build machines and an atmosphere, place decorative plants and other items, have plants growing and animals roaming, decorate your home base, and even play little arcade and puzzle games within the game. And you can use your hoverboard to cruise around in your world. You can also fly around the planet and out to the asteroid belt in the spaceship.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features. But as with every early access game, you will enjoy all updates free of charge from the time you purchase the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We currently and primarily use the discussion boards as well as Discord to talk to our community. We encourage all SEEDS Early Access players to express their feedback and impressions, suggest new features for the sandbox mode, and vote for potential new machines and plants.

A curated group of players will have access to our latest development builds before they are released and made available for everyone. We will improve this procedure based on the needs and feedback of our community of players.”

About This Game

A barren, desolate planet is waiting to come back to life. Completely reshape its terrain, decide where water flows and plants grow, build machines and an atmosphere, and watch the world grow into a living and thriving ecosystem shaped by your own choices.

In Early Access, SEEDS begins as an open-ended sandbox: terraform the planet freely, experiment with its ecosystem, collect resources, construct machines from blueprints, and shape the world in your own way.

But this is only the beginning. We are working on a story mode that will turn your arrival on the planet into a journey, a discovery, a planetary canvas of choices and expectations. Explore the hidden world and uncover its secrets and history, learn more about the life it harbors, all while working with resources and blueprints to research and build new things as the story unfolds.

Your journey into space is just the beginning. The planet and its secrets are waiting!

Terraform

Make the Planet Habitable

Deploy machines to bring back atmosphere, water, and nutrients. Reshape the planet's surface to your liking, build ponds, bridges and rivers, and more… Restore nature and bring back life on the planet.

Create

Plant the Seeds

Grow a variety of plants and flowers, plant trees, and create an intact ecosystem.

Discover

Attract Animals and Aliens

Discover a lost civilization, attract and interact with them and various animal species.

Mine & Collect

Gather Artifacts and Resources

To survive and make the planet habitable you have to gather resources and build machines. Discover lost artifacts on the way.

Defend

Defend the Planet from Hazards

If you wish, you can make living on the planet a bit more challenging by having to defend it from asteroids, as well as drone and alien invasions. But you'll always have the option to play completely peacefully!

About Us

We're a small indie team of three gamedevs and we do everything ourselves: code, graphics, writing, and music/sfx. And we're deeply passionate about the technology and tools we use. And often, when we create something useful, we love to give back - by open-sourcing and sharing it. For example, our entirely in-house game engine PasVulkan, which powers SEEDS, as well as our RISC-V emulator PasRISCV, are both Free and Open Source Software (FOSS).

Virtual Machine

Our in-game computer, which runs programs such as stats, the map, and interfaces to our machines, is a fully emulated 64-bit RISC-V CPU and virtual machine running a customized Linux system in a framebuffer console. It can also run an unmodified Linux distribution out of the box.

This lets you play games within our game, such as a proper game of chess against the computer, Cylindix (a block-stacking game), Space Prowler (a retro space game), and Polygon Legacy (a fast-paced action game), with more to come. You can also program your own little tools and games to run on the virtual computer and arcade machine.

And yes, it also runs D__M.
