About This Game

The whole game fits on a 3.5" floppy disk

Low Space Race is a single self-contained executable. Every track, machine, shader, font, sound effect and music track is embedded inside one file. No installer, no launcher, no downloading a second copy of the game before you can play it. Double-click and you are on the grid.

Anti-gravity racing at it's core

You pilot a hovering machine through 11 circuits suspended above procedural cities. Loops, corkscrews, vertical climbs and inverted sections are all part of the ordinary racing line.

There are no weapons and no item boxes. Every second you gain is a second you drove for.

Couch multiplayer

Two, three or four players on one screen, in horizontal or vertical split layouts, against a full AI field. Keyboard and gamepad both fully supported.

Game modes

 • Quick Race: 1 to 4 local players (split-screen), field sizes of 4, 8 or 16 machines, any track, 3 laps, full results screen.

 • Tournament: Three 4-race championships scored 16 points down to 1 by finishing position. Take the Olympus Cup (Zenith, Colosseum, Echo, Tartarus), the Helix Cup (Spiral, Gyre, The Loop, Coil), or the Chaos Cup, which runs every race reversed and mirrored at once. Live championship standings between rounds.

 • Time Trial: Solo, no AI. Race your saved best-lap, chase per-track records, and hunt the perfect lap.

Eleven tracks

ZENITH, HAIRPIN, THE LOOP, COLOSSEUM, TARTARUS, SPIRAL, HYDRA, GYRE, COIL, ECHO and MARATHON — each with its own city skyline, palette, obstacle layout and character, from Colosseum's wide arena sweeps to Coil's relentless helix climb to Marathon's endurance run. Several circuits, including Hydra, Colosseum, Hairpin and Echo, split into alternate branching routes, so learning a track means learning which fork is faster for your machine.

Sixteen machines, five handling personalities

AURA, INFERNO, HYPERSTELLAR, NEBULA, EMERALD, WINTER, ROSE, CARGO, VOLT, TITAN, PHANTOM, COMET, BLADE, FORGE, SPECTRE and NOVA. Each is rated on Thrust, Top Speed, Mass and Energy, picking a machine is a real tactical decision on a track full of walls.

The skill stack

Depth here comes from stacking techniques, not collecting power-ups:

 • Energy is your health bar but also your boost capacity: Wall scrapes, bumps, rival hits and boost all drain it. Empty means you wreck and respawn with brief phase immunity (no boost, no pickups, no bumps).

 • Energy economy: Completing a lap restores half of it, a respawn returns a fifth destroying other cars also grants you energy. Deciding where on the lap to spend it is the core strategic loop.

 • Drafting: Sit in a rival's wake for a tow force and passive boost-fuel recovery. Slipstreaming is how you refuel without slowing down.

 • Perfect start: Hit the throttle on the rising edge after the countdown's "2" for a launch impulse off the line.

 • Spin attack: A barrel-roll with a lateral dash, costing 15% of your energy. Take a rival down and steal their energy for yourself.

 • Three-tier drift: Brake plus steer plants the machine at a slip angle and raises its turn rate, so a drifted corner is measurably tighter than a gripped one. Release for an instant forward impulse and a raised speed cap.

Track hazards and pickups

 • Energy rings raise your energy by 30%.

 • Turbo floors give you a burst of acceleration.

 • Boost ramps fling you off a wall into an airborne arc.

 • Holographic cubes reduce your speed and triggers phasing.
