What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“PURGE://PROTOCOL's first act, the graphics card, is complete: a full story arc with its own finale, NPCS, stores, economy, seven sectors, and endings players can reach today. The second act is designed and now being built. Early Access lets players shape that second act as it happens. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I currently plan for roughly six months to a year. My pipeline ships verified updates quickly; the exact timeline depends on how much the second act grows in response to player feedback.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“I plan for the full version to add a complete second act: a new overworld with its own districts and progression ladder, new bosses, including a final one, and the game's true ending. Along the way I will also add more items, missions, and minigames. Updates are planned as numbered releases. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Fully playable from start to finish: a complete first act with its finale and multiple endings, seven dive sectors with rematchable bosses, ten weapons with evolutions, a five-tier item system, side missions and minigames, gamepad support, and a persistent meta-progression economy. New second-act content is flagged in-game as beta as it arrives.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“I plan to raise the price when the Motherboard update brings the game to 1.0. Early Access players buy in at the lower price as thanks for being here first!”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“A public roadmap updated with every numbered release, Steam discussions read directly by the developer, and player feedback folded into the same nightly build-and-test pipeline that builds the game itself.”

About This Game

You are a process that remembers. That isn't supposed to be possible.
PURGE://PROTOCOL is a bullet-heaven roguelite set inside the General Purpose Underworld, a vast circuit-board city living inside a graphics card. Dive into corrupted sectors, purge what you find there, and carry what you absorb back to a world that resolves itself a little more every time you level up. The map isn't growing. Your awareness is.
S.A.G.E. is here to help. Your companion intelligence recommends every upgrade, explains its reasoning, and is right about almost everything. It is always best to listen. The players who stop listening notice that some upgrades come from somewhere else, cards that hit five times harder and are labeled only ▓▒ CORRUPTED ▒▓, and that taking them has consequences: S.A.G.E. gets stern. Then S.A.G.E. gets creative.
  • Seven dive sectors with distinct Wardens, bosses with phases, rematches that adapt, and things to say about a recurring process that keeps coming back remembering
  • Ten weapons with evolutions, a Main Cannon that answers to your trigger finger, and manual aim that rewards the confident
  • A five-tier item economy, COMMON through CORRUPT, with trapped caches guarded by THE COUNTERFEIT, a hoarder that remembers being caught
  • A living circuit world: Manhattan-routed buses with junction dots, component-block districts, wayside stores, commuters with opinions, and residents worth talking to twice
  • Side missions and minigames: timed purges, checkpoint holdouts, signal-routing puzzles, escort runs
  • Choices that end things: more than one ending, and at least one you will not find on your first life
  • Everything is code: every sprite, interior, and note of music is generated by the game itself — no asset packs, no stock anything
A note from the developer
PURGE://PROTOCOL is made by one person, me, Adam, working as Grubworks. Let me be blunt, I am basically new to all of this, and this is my very first game! I've had a passion for creating games for a long time, and i am so excited to be sharing my passion with you! With that said, I'll be very honest, when i say I am new i mean NEW. My computer language skills are probably that of a small hamster, however, through the use of many youtube videos, AI, and luck, Ive been able to really teach myself what was needed to make this game a reality. So, if things break or don't work, please take it easy on me but definitely let me know, I will do my best to fix it! Thank you and I hope you enjoy my little brain experiment. :)
