The town went quiet before the squad arrived. A cinematic first-person survival horror: search rain-soaked streets, ration every bullet, and trace an outbreak back to something buried far longer than anyone admits.

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“"Echoes of the Lost is a story-driven horror game built by a very small, solo-led team.
Releasing it chapter by chapter is the only honest way I can build it at the quality I
want.

Early Access lets me put finished chapters in players' hands instead of disappearing for
years and hoping the result lands. Horror in particular depends on things I cannot fully
judge alone: whether tension holds, whether a scare works the second time, whether players
understand where to go without a marker telling them. That feedback shapes the chapters
that follow.

Everything released is complete and playable. Nothing stops mid-sentence."”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“"The plan is roughly two years, depending on how development goes and how much the team
can grow.

I would rather give an honest estimate than a confident date I cannot keep. Chapters are
released when they are finished, not on a marketing schedule, and the roadmap is updated
publicly whenever that estimate changes."

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“"The full version is planned to include:

- The complete story: the town, the hospital and laboratory, the valley below the falls,
and the return to the source of the disaster.
- A wider bestiary, including enemy types that change how spaces have to be approached.
- More locations, each with their own systems and environmental stories.
- Expanded equipment, weapon configurations and survival systems.
- Full localization coverage and a final audio and voice-over pass.

The core of the game — first-person exploration, investigation, resource-driven survival
and measured combat — is already in place and will not be redesigned. Later chapters
extend it rather than replace it."”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Echoes of the Lost has not yet launched in Early Access and is not currently available to play on Steam.

The current development build covers the checkpoint area and includes first-person exploration, environmental interaction, squad dialogue, combat and resource management. A free demo is being prepared for public release following testing and further development.

Chapter 1 is still in development. It is planned as the first Early Access release, with a target playtime of approximately 2.5–3 hours. Its full story route is not yet complete. Content, presentation and performance are still being refined.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“"Yes. The price will increase as chapters are added.

Everyone who buys during Early Access receives every future chapter at no additional cost.
There will be no paid story DLC — the game is one purchase.

Buying early means a lower price in exchange for playing a game that is still being built."”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“"Player feedback directly affects what gets built next.

- Bug reports and technical issues are collected through the Steam discussions and the
community Discord, and prioritized in public.
- Feedback about pacing, difficulty, readability and tension is reviewed after each chapter
and shapes the design of the next one.
- Development progress, including what failed and had to be reworked, is posted regularly
rather than only when there is good news.

I read everything, even when I cannot act on all of it."”

About This Game

THE OPERATION WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ROUTINE.

Echoes of the Lost is a cinematic first-person survival horror set in an isolated American town where communications have failed and the military response has gone silent.

You play as Rook, an operative entering the quarantine zone with a private response squad. What begins as a controlled investigation becomes a fight to get out as infected residents, collapsing infrastructure and impossible phenomena tear the operation apart.

READ THE WORLD

Search abandoned streets and interiors for supplies, documents and alternate routes. Lighting, sound, environmental traces and squad dialogue reveal what happened here without reducing the mystery to constant exposition.

FIGHT ONLY WHEN YOU MUST

Combat is dangerous, short and deliberate. Ammunition and medical supplies matter. Observe the space, prepare your equipment, and decide whether the next threat is worth confronting at all.

ENTER WITH A SQUAD

Your team is more than background radio chatter. Bulldog, Doc and Ghost react to discoveries, to danger and to each other as professional confidence gives way to uncertainty and fear.

CHOOSE A WAY FORWARD

Move through residential streets or the administrative district before the routes converge deeper inside the town. Each path offers different spaces, events, resources and pieces of what happened here.

FACE SOMETHING BEYOND INFECTION

The outbreak is only the visible layer. Biological horror gradually gives way to anomalies tied to a buried experiment and to something far older than the people who tried to control it.

RELEASED IN CHAPTERS

Echoes of the Lost is built and released as a series of story chapters.

  • Chapter 1 is available at launch: a complete, self-contained opening act of roughly 2.5 to 3 hours with its own beginning, climax and consequences.
  • Further chapters continue Rook's story directly, moving beyond the town into the valley below and back to the source of the disaster.
  • Each chapter is a finished piece of the story, not a fragment that stops mid-sentence.

This is a solo-led production, and releasing in chapters is what makes the scope honest: every chapter ships finished instead of holding the whole game hostage to one distant date. The development roadmap is published and updated openly, and the game's direction responds to what players report.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Generative AI is used in the following areas:

- Audio: AI-assisted tools are used for voice placeholder lines / sound effects and ambience. Placeholder voice is replaced with professional voice actors for the commercial release.
- Marketing materials and store graphics: some key art and capsule imagery.

Concept art generated with AI is used only in internal design documents and
is not shipped in the game or published on the Steam store page.

No generative AI runs live during gameplay. All gameplay content, level design,
systems, narrative and integration are authored by the developer.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Intense violence against humanoid infected enemies, blood and gore, dead bodies, disturbing medical and biological imagery, frightening scenes, sustained horror themes. Sexual content: none.
