What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“I Was Reincarnated as a Mage is being released in Early Access so I can develop the game alongside its community. The core adventure is playable, but I want player feedback to help refine combat balance, progression, quests, dungeon difficulty, relationships, and the overall gameplay experience as development continues.

Early Access also gives me the opportunity to expand the world gradually with new story content, locations, enemies, equipment, abilities, quests, and higher-rank adventures while improving existing systems based on real player experiences.

My goal is to build a larger and more polished RPG visual novel without losing sight of what players enjoy most. Early Access players will be able to experience the beginning of Jay's journey while directly helping shape how I Was Reincarnated as a Mage grows toward its full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roadmap:
Stage Target Main focus
EA 0.1 Now Copper/Iron foundation + Steam Early Access
0.2–0.3 1–2 months Stabilization, feedback, Iron content expansion
0.4–0.5 2–4 months Silver Rank storyline/dungeons/content
0.6–0.7 4–6 months Gold Rank + relationship/story expansion
0.8 6–8 months Diamond Rank/endgame
0.9 8–10 months Main story conclusion + content completion
1.0 8–12 months Polish, balance, QA, Steam release”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to expand significantly on the foundation available in Early Access. We plan to continue Jay’s journey beyond the early Guild Ranks with additional story chapters, quests, locations, dungeons, enemies, equipment, abilities, and increasingly challenging encounters.

We also plan to further develop party progression and character relationships, including more interactions and opportunities to strengthen bonds with companions. Combat, crafting, equipment, spell progression, exploration, and other RPG systems may also be expanded and refined based on development needs and Early Access player feedback.

Our overall goal for the full version is to provide a more complete adventure with a larger world, deeper character progression, additional Guild Rank content, and a more developed main storyline surrounding Jay’s reincarnation and mysterious Light Magic.

Early Access feedback will help determine which systems and areas receive the most attention as the game continues to evolve.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of I Was Reincarnated as a Mage currently provides a playable opening portion of Jay’s adventure, combining visual novel storytelling with turn-based RPG gameplay.

Players can explore Dew Dew Valley, join the Adventurer’s Guild, complete quests, enter dungeons, battle a variety of enemies, recruit and fight alongside party members, earn experience and gold, collect materials, and develop their characters through equipment, attributes, spells, and abilities.

The current version includes the early Copper and Iron Rank portions of the adventure, with increasingly challenging dungeon encounters and character progression. Players can also interact with characters around town, develop relationships, visit shops, manage their party and equipment, craft or upgrade gear, and experience the game’s day and night system.

This is an actively developing Early Access build, so players may encounter bugs, balance issues, incomplete content, or systems that change as development continues. Player feedback will be particularly valuable for improving combat balance, progression, quests, UI, and the overall experience.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to offer I Was Reincarnated as a Mage at a lower price during Early Access to reflect the current amount of available content and the ongoing nature of development. This also serves as a thank-you to players who choose to support the game early and provide feedback while the experience continues to grow.

As additional story content, locations, dungeons, quests, character progression, relationships, abilities, equipment, and other features are developed, we may gradually increase the price to reflect the expanded scope and overall amount of content available.

Any future pricing changes will be based on the state and scope of the game at that time.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play an important role throughout the development of I Was Reincarnated as a Mage. I plan to regularly monitor Steam Discussions and player feedback to identify bugs, balance issues, confusing mechanics, and areas of the game that players particularly enjoy.

Players will be encouraged to share feedback on combat balance, character progression, quests, dungeon difficulty, abilities, equipment, relationships, UI, and other gameplay systems. For larger updates, I also plan to use announcements and focused feedback discussions to learn how new content is being received.

Community polls and discussions may also be used to gather opinions on potential improvements, content priorities, artwork, and existing features. Player feedback will help influence development decisions while allowing the overall story and creative direction of the game to remain consistent.

I also plan to share development updates, patch notes, previews, and other progress through Steam so players can follow how the game evolves throughout Early Access.

My goal is to maintain an open dialogue with the community and make Early Access players an important part of improving and refining the experience.”
