Why Early Access?

“Cyber Cowboys has been live as a browser game and is already fully playable — combat, crafting, PvP dueling, posse wars, world bosses, mounts, housing, prestige, the whole frontier. But bringing it to Steam is more than just wrapping it in a desktop app. Early Access lets us build the Steam-native features the community deserves — achievements, Steam Cloud saves, trading cards, and deeper Steam integration — while keeping the core game in players' hands from day one. The game is already out there being played and enjoyed. Early Access on Steam is our way of saying "saddle up, the ride's not over yet — we've got more coming."”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to be in Early Access for roughly 3 to 6 months. The core game is already complete and live — Early Access is about polishing the Steam experience, adding Steam-specific features, and incorporating community feedback from a whole new audience of players.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to add Steam Achievements that span the full range of gameplay — from your first bar fight to becoming a frontier legend. We're also working on Steam Cloud save support so your cowboy follows you across machines, Steam trading cards and badges themed around the game's wanted-poster aesthetic, and deeper integration with Steam's social features. Beyond that, we plan to continue expanding the game itself — new enemy tiers, additional crafting recipes, more world boss encounters, new posse war mechanics, and fresh cosmetic options. The retro desktop themes will also get new additions based on what the community responds to most.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable right now. All core features are implemented and live: idle combat with auto-fight across 7 enemy tiers, PvP dueling, crafting and gathering, wanted poster bounty hunts, the posse guild system with world bosses and posse wars, mounts and cosmetics, player housing, the prestige/remort system, real-time saloon chat with DMs, and 15 swappable desktop themes. The game has been running live with an active player base, so it's been tested under real conditions with real players. Bugs exist — it's the frontier, things get messy — but nothing game-breaking.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Cyber Cowboys is free to play and we plan to keep it that way. We're not planning to change the price — it'll stay free during and after Early Access. Optional supporter perks and cosmetics may be added over time, but the core game will always be free.

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The game already has an active community through the in-game saloon chat and our Telegram channels. Players have been reporting bugs, suggesting features, and shaping the game's direction since launch — many of the current features (posse wars, the duel system, desktop themes, the achievement chains) were built based directly on player feedback. On Steam, we plan to continue that same approach. We'll be active in the Steam community discussions, reading every bug report and suggestion, and running polls when we're deciding what to build next. The frontier belongs to the people who live in it — we're just the sheriffs keeping the lights on.”

CYBER COWBOYS is an idle Western RPG that runs on a simulated retro desktop operating system. Create your cowboy, step into the lawless frontier, and build your legacy — one bullet, one bounty, and one bar fight at a time.

Set on a glitchy Windows 98-style desktop complete with draggable windows, a start menu, and a taskbar, Cyber Cowboys blends the nostalgia of retro computing with the grit of the Wild West. Every feature lives inside its own desktop app — combat, crafting, the saloon, the stables, even your homestead.

IDLE COMBAT WITH AUTO-FIGHT

Let your cowboy shoot it out automatically while you tend to other business. Seven tiers of enemies from petty drunks to legendary gunslingers. Blunderbuss misfires, critical hits, and the ever-present 1% chance of catching a bullet and dying — the frontier is unforgiving.

PVP DUELING

Challenge rival cowboys to coin-flip duels. Winner takes gold, loser eats dirt. Stack your buffs, pray to whatever god you believe in, and pull the trigger.

CRAFTING & GATHERING

Mine ore, chop wood, gather hides. Forge weapons and armor at the anvil. Salvage gear by rarity. Every piece of equipment matters when a outlaw is aiming at your head.

WANTED POSTER BOUNTY HUNTS

Track down wanted criminals and collect bounties. The higher the reward, the meaner the target.

POSSE (GUILD) SYSTEM

Join a posse with friends. Take on world bosses together. Wage posse wars against rival gangs. Coordinate in posse chat and dominate the frontier.

WORLD BOSSES

Server-wide bosses with server-authoritative damage tracking. Everyone contributes. Everyone gets a cut of the loot.

MOUNTS & COSMETICS

Tame horses and ride across the plains. Customize your cowboy with cosmetics, badges, and supporter perks.

PLAYER HOUSING

Build your homestead. Buy houses, shacks, and premium estates. Put down roots in a town that wants you dead.

PRESTIGE / REMORT SYSTEM

When you've peaked, remort your cowboy to reset progress in exchange for permanent prestige upgrades. The grind never ends — it just gets meaner.

ACTIVE SALOON CHAT

Real-time multiplayer chat in the saloon. Talk shit, trade tips, form posses, and talk smack to the marshal. Timestamps, mention flashes, DMs — everything you need to stay connected.

RETRO DESKTOP THEMES

Switch between multiple desktop themes — 15 themes to choose from ranging from windows 98 to several new linux distro themes. Each theme changes the entire look and feel of the game, not just colors but layout, fonts, window borders, and taskbar position.
