About This Game

                           Everything starts in spring 1934.

                           A desert excavation near Jerusalem.

Two archaeologists with different reasons to be there.

One artifact that shouldn't have been discovered.

No one left to solve the murder.

You will search through testimonies, forged papers, letters written in anger, coded notes, and

photographs of people who didn't know they were about to become a part of this story.

You arrive always a bit too late to change the plot. Almost always.

But early enough to solve the riddle.

                           Word by word.

Each chapter hands you a new grammar and challenges you to read it.

Ciphers, locks, hidden compartments — the story decides what stands between you and the answer.

Your job is to learn what to look for and where.

The times were unsettling and unpredictable.

                           So is the game.

What follows is a decade of chaos and injustice, reconstructed piece by piece.

Everything you face and examine feels real.

The mystery. The occupation. The resistance. The struggle.

And when the game hands you the wheel — you'll understand the Price of Grief.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

As our studio name, Zero Budget Mystery, might suggest, we made use of every tool available to us. Generative AI was used to support parts of the development process, including code generation and creating visual and audio asset samples. It helped us reduce development time and resources, allowing us to focus more on the creative direction and design of the game. AI-assisted content was selected, extensively edited, adapted, and integrated by the development team as part of our deliberate creative process.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

The Price of Grief is a narrative mystery set before, during, and after World War II. Investigating scenes of death is the game's core mechanic, and dead bodies appear in nearly every chapter as evidence to be examined and reconstructed. The story includes a chapter set in Nazi-occupied Warsaw and a chapter set inside Auschwitz concentration camp, with the Holocaust and its atrocities in the background. Nazi symbols and imagery appear throughout, presented in historical context, not glorified. One chapter includes an occult ritual, including the severed head of a goat. The game does not contain sexual content. Alcohol and drugs can be found in some characters' inventories, and some characters smoke cigarettes. Its themes center on guilt, loss, and the moral cost of violence, and on how trying to change the past leads to even more pain.
