A quiet summer helping your grandmother in the countryside until an ATV ride past the fields shows you something standing in the wheat. It gets closer each time. It isn't human and it followed you home. You tell your grandmother about it she gets mad and says you shouldn't have looked at it.

About This Game

You're back at your grandmother's house for the summer — the village, the chores, the quiet. Nothing has changed. Then your friend asks if you want to take the ATVs out.

You ride the field roads and the tree line past the village, stopping here and there the way you always do. The first time you see it, it's just a shape standing far off in the wheat. Probably a farmer. Probably nothing. You keep riding.

The second time, it's by a tree — much closer than it should be, for something that was so far away only minutes ago. Nothing walks that fast.

The third time, on the roadside in the dark, you're close enough to see its face. It isn't human.

You get home and tell your grandmother everything. She doesn't ask questions. She's furious — not really at you, but at what you did. She tells you that you shouldn't have looked at it. Then she stops talking about it entirely, no matter how you ask, even though it's clear she knows something.

That night, you realize it followed you home.

The Guest from the Fields is a first-person folk horror game about a quiet family homestead and the thing that starts closing in on it, day by day. You'll keep doing the ordinary work of the house — helping in the fields, going down to the cellar, chores that used to mean nothing — but the thought about what you saw in the fields makes them a nightmare.

  • A lived-in rural setting

  • A retro-inspired, dithered visual style

  • Everyday chores that become dread as the thing gets closer to the house

  • Roughly an hour long experience

  • Nightmares based on my real dreams

This game contains sudden scares, unsettling imagery, and themes of isolation. Player discretion advised.
