What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“MUSTER’s core loop is already playable: read the excavation board, dig out a warband, develop it through a run, and deploy it into automatic battles.

Early Access will help us improve the space between those systems: clue clarity, shovel and lantern pressure, combat pacing, difficulty, and the balance between roles, equipment, and talents. Players approach deduction games and auto-battlers in very different ways, and we want that experience to influence our priorities.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Early Access to last approximately 6–12 months. This is an estimate rather than a fixed release date. The timing may change as new systems are tested and community feedback influences their scope.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our goal for version 1.0 is a broader, clearer, and better-balanced version of the game already available.

Current development directions include additional run variety and polish, an optional daily challenge mode, and a persistent camp layer that creates goals and player expression between runs. We want the camp to complement the deduction game without turning it into a permanent-stat grind.

We also expect to continue improving onboarding, interface clarity, accessibility, combat pacing, and balance. The exact form and priority of these additions may change as we test them with players.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current build supports complete six-floor runs across the earthen and unlockable frozen barrows, plus Endless play.

It includes eight recruitable roles, six difficulty ranks, class quests and talent trees, relics, dozens of weapons and charms, a pedlar and forge, bestiary, records, and leaderboards. Battles use four-column deployment followed by automatic real-time combat on a large hex arena.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We currently plan to keep the same base price throughout Early Access and for version 1.0. If that plan changes, we will announce it in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Steam Discussions will be our primary public feedback channel. We plan to maintain clear spaces for bug reports, general feedback, and known issues, alongside patch notes explaining what changes and why.

We will also ask focused questions about clue clarity, difficulty, combat pacing, build variety, the daily challenge mode, and what the persistent camp should contribute between runs. Larger changes may be tested through optional branches before reaching the main build.”

About This Game

MUSTER is a Minesweeper-inspired roguelite where you dig a warband out of the earth, arm it with loot, and send it into automatic battles.

Uncover empty ground and its number tells you how many of the eight surrounding tiles still hide a monster or prize. It tells you where something is buried, treasure or not. Read overlapping clues, use flags as your own notes, and decide which risks are worth taking.

You can dig only beside ground already open. Spend limited shovels to break ground elsewhere and start a new front. Lanterns let you inspect buried tiles without triggering them. Dig carelessly and you can wake a whole connected pocket of monsters.

Dig Up Your Warband

Buried glints mark diggers trapped below. Reveal a glint and excavate all the ground around it to pull that digger free.

Build your warband from eight roles. The Barrow Widow holds the front and draws an enemy’s attention. The Bone Fletcher attacks from four cells away. The Torchbearer leaves targets burning, while the Grave Alchemist keeps allies standing.

Every role has its own class quest and three talent trees. Complete quests to earn talent points and shape each digger for the rest of the run.

Deploy, Then Watch

Battles play out automatically on a large hex arena. Place your diggers across four deployment areas, press START, and let positioning, reach, equipment, and class abilities do the work.

Give someone a Long Spear and they can attack over the Widow’s shoulder while she holds the line. Afterward, the battle report shows who dealt damage, who healed, who took the punishment, and which effects were responsible.

Win and slain enemies award coin and may drop gear in four rarities. Lose and one of your three grit is gone. You return to the same floor, with surviving diggers and monsters still carrying their wounds.

Solver-Checked Floors

Every generated layout is checked by a solver before play, and boards are rerolled when their deductions stall. Limited lanterns provide a safe reveal when logic alone gets tricky.

The solver can establish which tiles hide something, but monsters and prizes share the same clues. Knowing that a tile is occupied doesn’t tell you whether it holds treasure or enemies. That uncertainty is where the risk lives.

Two Barrows

A standard run descends through six floors. Begin in the earthen barrow; your first victory unlocks the frozen barrow, with different rooms, enemy mixes, and bosses.

In the frozen barrow, some enemies are visible from the moment the floor opens. Every dig brings their ice closer to breaking. Free one early and you take the initiative; keep digging and eventually the ice chooses the moment for you.

Once unlocked, barrow and difficulty are selected separately.
