About This Game

WANTED: NIGHT STAFF — BELLWEATHER PUBLIC LIBRARY

Four positions. Cash paid nightly. Duties: front desk, returns, closing. Ask for the boss. Do not ask about the previous night staff.

OVERDUE is a 1–4 player co-op horror game about working the night shift at a small-town library in the year 2000.

The work is real: scan cards at the CRT terminal, hunt down requests in the stacks, shelve whatever the return chute spits out, and lock up at close. The pay is per task — and per photo, because the boss wants pictures of anything in the building that changed while your back was turned. He will not discuss what's in them.

Each night the patrons get stranger, and the rules on the desk note get longer:

• Damaged books go to the bin in the cellar. Not the shelves.

• Shelf 9 is closed.

• The Curse of Bellweather is unavailable. It has always been unavailable.

• The crying in aisle nine is the pipes. Do not go and look at the pipes.

• After midnight, that knocking is not a patron.

Follow the rules and you'll be fine. Probably. For a while. Three nights — most don't do three.

Bring coworkers: proximity voice chat means you'll hear exactly where your friend was standing when they stopped talking, and Steam invites drop them straight into your shift. Playing alone counts as fully staffed, legally speaking.

• 1–4 player online co-op, or solo

• Three escalating nights, choices, and a finale

• Photograph anomalies for cash — notice what changed

• Proximity voice, Steam invites, achievements, night-by-night saves

• The year 2000, fully committed: CRTs, polaroids, card catalogs, no cell phones

• Interface and subtitles in 18 languages
