About This Demo

Act 1 of SPELL DEATH, first fight to boss

Your deck is the alphabet. Arrange seven letter cards into a word, and the word is the attack. Longer words hit harder. When you cannot see a word, throw the letters at the enemy one at a time for 1 damage each. We allow this. We do not respect it.

The demo is the Pressworks, the top stratum of the Athenaeum Mortis, a library that died badly and kept writing. A run takes 15 to 25 minutes.

What is in it

• The whole Act 1 map. Fights, elites, shops, bonfires and all 15 Act 1 events.
  
• The Compositor. Iron stocks, Block, common letters made unreasonable. You start here.
  
• The Rhapsodist, locked. Clear the Act 1 boss as the Compositor and the demo hands you a second archetype, one that forges a bar of up to four rhymed words and cashes the whole bar at once. That is the reason to play it twice.
  
• The Act 1 boss rolls from three. The Redactor bans letters from the deck you just built. The Furnace and the Great Spill do other things to you.
  
• Letter stocks, spellbook words, clothing, scrolls and curses from the Act 1 pools. Iron converts a letter's damage into Block. Jagged only cuts when you throw it.
  
• Ascension levels, if you clear it and want it harder.

What is not

The Scriptorium, the Cuneiform Depths, Ur-Script and The Logos. The Etymologist and the Glossolalist, whose slots on the selection screen read "Available in the full game", which is true and slightly rude.

Saves do not carry into the full game. Your vocabulary does.
