Why Early Access?

“A game with this level of depth can only be finished using real players. While extensively play-tested, what is needed is thousands of yards, run thousands of ways, to hone the economy, the difficulty, the overall experience. Importantly, the entire core of the game is complete and playable today, including the online head-to-head races.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The current roadmap is for a further 12 months of build before the game is considered complete. This includes not just tuning, but also additional features that will enhance the game experience, particularly for the horse racing veteran.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“There are three main areas that will differ:

1) Expanding online play - increasing scheduled racing into a fuller competitive calendar, including special events and more race bands.

2) Growing the racing world itself, including forthcoming partnerships with major pedigree sites to further expand on the current 14,000+ real world horses across racing's history.

3) Plans to move the series beyond the Flat - National Hunt racing, new racing territories beyond UK/IRE, and continual refinement of the play experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Complete and playable end-to-end, the game has been in private testing for several months. In place: full breeding - a 15-trait genome with Mendelian and polygenic inheritance, Chef-de-Race dosage, Bruce Lowe families, nicks computed from three centuries of real breeding records - alongside auctions, private treaty, claiming and mare leasing. In addition, 24 UK real courses, an 11-option training schedule system, juvenile education, staff, jockeys, sponsorship and an economy with real insolvency. Betting is also available, as are online races against rival trainers.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The price may rise gradually as major content and features ship. Any change will of course be announced in advance.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We will be offering methods to report bugs, alongside general feedback. The intention is for the build to be a two-way street.”

About This Game

Build on horse racing's Golden Age of the 70s and 80s as you to take the reins of your own stable on January 1st, 1990. Manage day-to-day running, from staffing to breeding to facilities - can you etch your name alongside the greats?

BREEDING & BLOODLINES

  • Mendelian and polygenic inheritance:  a comprehensive 15-trait genome, with trait linkage, alongside sporadic mutation emergence.

  • Real Thoroughbred lineages, over 300 years deep: featuring over 14,000 real pedigree records that reach back to the foundational sires: the Byerley Turk, the Darley Arabian and the Godolphin Arabian.

  • Chef-de-Race dosage: 222 chefs from Roman's tables shape distance aptitude, and dosage re-enters the line with every foal bred.

  • Bruce Lowe families: full family and subfamily numbers on every pedigree. 

  • Nicks built from real historical race records: cross affinity calculated from three centuries of breeding data. Authentic black-type winners and real crosses, weighted by historical evidence.

  • Line-breeding: tighten a good line, but push too far and risk poor foals or stillbirth. 

THE BLOODSTOCK MARKET

  • The sale ring: bid live at auction or consign your own stock.

  • Private treaty: browse the wider market and deal directly.

  • Mare leasing: lease broodmares for your stable or let your own out.

  • Stud fees: monetise your champions at stud or source elite sires from the open market.

RACING

  • 24 real UK and Ireland courses: the real racing map, growing on history's schedule: Wolverhampton's all-weather opens in December 1993 and Newmarket runs both its courses, Rowley Mile and the July Course, by season.

  • The full schedule: sellers to Pattern class, official-ratings handicapping and a win-keyed penalty that punishes the sandbagger.

  • Race day: riding tactics set before the off, weight that costs real lengths, and a top-down live viewer with silks, furlong poles and commentary.

  • Jockeys: bookings, retainers and apprentice claims.

  • A world with a past: every horse arrives in 1990 with a rich background built on real ancestry and their real race records.

THE BETTING RING

  • An honest market: every price is built from public form only, with win and each-way singles. If you can read a maiden better than the market can, the value is yours.

YOUR YARD

  • Training that makes a difference: an 11-option weekly training regime to build fitness, freshness and sharpness.

  • Juvenile education: yearlings need to be broken, ridden away and stalls-schooled before they ever see a racecard. Skip the schooling and the stalls gate will tell you why.
