A roguelike deckbuilder with a party of three. Every hero has their own deck, their own hand and their own obols to spend, so each turn you choose not just what to play but who plays it. 22 heroes, 787 cards, six lands — and a path made of cards, where picking one burns the rest.

About This Game

Three heroes. Three decks. Three hands. One turn to spend them

Most deckbuilders hand you a single deck. OBOLUS hands you three — on the table at

the same time, each with its own cards, its own hand, and its own coin to spend.

Every turn you decide not just what to play, but who plays it, and in

what order.

Your healer's spare obol can pay for the brawler's finisher.

Your gambler can set up a kill your knight is one card short of landing.

That's the difference between a card game and a party.

The coachman takes his fee along the way

Sorel drives you from land to land and never quotes a price up front. Six worlds

lie between you and whatever is waiting at the end, and each one plays by a rule of

its own — the road you walk is made of cards, dealt three at a time. Take the

battle, take the merchant, take the shortcut. The other two are gone the moment you

choose, and the road never doubles back.

Everything on offer costs something

  • Blessings that make you stronger and ask for something in return.

  • Merchant, a scavenger, and a smith's anvil that reforges what you already carry.

  • A crucible that melts two relics into one and keeps the best of both.

  • A gambling den where a game of Eighteen decides whether you set out with a gift or a debt. Nobody makes you sit down.

And the Sovereigns below

Some caves you can walk straight past. The things sleeping in them are not bosses

in the ordinary sense — they are puzzles with teeth, they are optional, and they

give up their armour only to a party built to take it.

What's in the box

  • 22 playable characters, and no two of them play alike — a bell-ringer charging a peal, a painter who copies the moves of whatever he's looking at, a smith who forges mid-fight, a symbiote that rots a whole enemy line.

  • 787 cards and 71 enemies, elites and bosses across six worlds.

  • Hardcore mode. No potions, no saves, and a fallen hero stays down. One

    run, all the way.

  • Full controller support, Steam Deck included.

  • English and Italian.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

The 2D art in OBOLUS is made with image generation models running locally on my own machine — Stable Diffusion XL through ComfyUI, including a style model I trained myself on 1930s cartoon references. None of it is a raw output: every sprite, backdrop, card frame and icon was directed through many passes, then cut out, colour-corrected, upscaled and assembled frame by frame into animation sheets.
Everything else is not AI: the rules, every card and every number on it, the balance, the 22 heroes, the six lands, the writing and the interface. The sound effects are synthesised by code written for this game.
Nothing is generated while you play. The game makes no network calls and ships with no model — nothing runs on your machine, and none of your data goes anywhere.
