What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“HEXCRAWL is an indie dark-fantasy exploration RPG with deep systems — combat, crafting, walkable delves, mastery, and expanding zones. Early Access lets us ship a playable, content-rich build now while we polish balance, UI, and saves with real player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We are not committing to a fixed 1.0 date. HEXCRAWL stays in Early Access until the core loop is stable, saves are trustworthy, and the world feels complete enough to leave — quality above schedule. We will keep Steam patch notes updated so you can follow progress.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to keep expanding the world, tightening systems, and improving stability as we work toward 1.0. Our roadmap may shift; this is direction, not a fixed checklist. We intend to support and expand on the game long after 1.0.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“An open-ended sandbox today — no fixed finale; the world keeps generating. Play now: hex overland exploration; settlements and shops; turn-based combat; loot and crafting (scrolls, trainers, tomes; Smithing, Stitchcraft, Alchemy, Survival, and Enchanting); journal (quests, recipes, mastery, achievements); Callings — Fighter, Practitioner, Hunter, and Sneak; multiple difficulties; bounty board; procedural maps; walkable delves (stealth, traps, locks); a broad bestiary. Expect bugs, rough edges, and balance changes. Windows only at launch.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features, including when we leave Early Access for 1.0. What you pay when you buy covers the full base game — price increases apply to new buyers only.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Playtesters have already helped shape the build; that continues in EA. We read Steam discussions, Discord, and bug reports; meaningful updates get Steam news patch notes. Feedback on crashes, balance, and UX drives priorities. We steer direction, but the community genuinely influences what we fix and build next.”

About This Game

Pick a direction and head out. Forests, swamps, mountains, deserts, tundras, coastlines, ruins, settlements, strange landmarks and worse things wait beyond the edge of what you know.

In HEXCRAWL, every step moves time forward. Terrain can slow you down. Weather can turn ugly. Food runs low. Your pack fills up. Eventually, every expedition reaches the same question: turn back with what you have, or keep going and see what else is out there?

Sometimes the next hex is empty, even safe.

Sometimes it isn't.

Random encounters can bring monsters, travelers, merchants, ambushes, oddities and opportunities. Scattered across the world are caves, temples, forts, tombs, shipwrecks, ruins and other places you can enter and explore directly. These Delves shift the game from overland travel to room-by-room exploration, with traps, hidden passages, darkness, loot and whatever has taken up residence inside.

Combat is turn-based, quick and dangerous. Enemies range from common wilderness threats to rare monsters, regional bosses, dragons and other creatures that can badly punish an adventurer who wandered into the wrong place too early.

And you can absolutely wander into the wrong place too early.

HEXCRAWL has no traditional character levels, and enemies do not scale themselves to match you. Your strength comes from equipment, Masteries and learning what keeps you alive. A weapon that seemed valuable yesterday may become dead weight tomorrow. A strange relic can change the way you approach a fight. Limited inventory space means you will not be carrying everything home.

Find a road and follow it. Cross a mountain range just to see what is on the other side. Mark a ruin you are not ready for and come back later. Hunt a boss because you want what it is carrying. Get lost. Run out of food. Make it home with something you had no business finding.

Then head out again.

This is Early Access. The map keeps opening ahead, and the game keeps growing.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

AI-assisted tools were used during development to create some visual and audio assets. All gameplay and procedural systems are code-driven, with no AI used during runtime. (If the game is successful enough, we hope to replace as many AI-generated assets as possible with human-created ones over time.)

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

This game contains stylized fantasy violence, combat against monsters and hostile creatures, and dark thematic imagery consistent with a dark fantasy setting. It does not include sexual content or graphic depictions of real-world violence.
